I am crying…. a lot more than I expected…..
I'm still working out what I think of the ending - after everything they did to fight to stay there? after series 1 showing us that literally every house they tried to buy had ghosts? - but then again the whole point is that they're family, and family doesn't have to be people you live with.
The episode as a whole was lovely. Very funny, very wholesome, a delight. I was pretty terrified during the exorcism. It seemed unlikely they'd end it that way, but that doesn't mean it wasn't an effective trick.
My only real wish is that they hadn't ended on the plague ghosts. I'm incredibly glad we got to see them again, but it just ever so slightly undercut the emotion. That's a tiny thing, though.
What a joy these past 5 series have been. It's definitely my favourite Them There project yet, and I can't wait to see what they all do next. I've been obsessed with them to varying degrees since 2009 and it's been wonderful watching how their artistry has evolved over the years. Thank you, Ghosts, you've been spectacular. <3
Just watched the Captain's death flashbacks four times in a row (plus a rewatch of all the Redding Weddy flashbacks in between). I am... a mess
The Captain continues to be an autism king, I love him so much
Slowly making my way through the new (and final) series of Ghosts, and they've really brought their A game. I haven't really been in a Ghosts hyperfixation since around series 2, so it isn't all as fresh in my mind as it might be, but something they're doing this series feels like it's back on top form. I keep laughing out loud at everything, and I'm loving all the storylines.
Special mention goes to Lolly! In the past, I've sometimes found Kitty a little unbelievable, but I think she's heightened her performance in a slightly different way (which feels like a continuation of what she did last series being the manager/agent) that just really works.
On the note of Kitty, I just watched Pineapple Day and I think everyone was expecting Kitty's death to have been premeditated murder by Eleanor, but what they actually did was far more moving. Eleanor's reaction to Kitty on her death bed was responsible for my first tears of series 5!
Anyway, I'm not sure if I'm going to binge the rest of the episodes tonight, but regardless I'm so happy this show is going out on a high.
I finished series 4! That was a really good series, and I enjoyed it all the more for not rushing it. (Having said that I did finish it in about 30 hours.) There wasn’t a continuous arc like with Lucy last series, though I suppose the gatehouse itself was the arc.
SPOILERS FROM HERE! I’m still somewhat in shock about Mary. Is Katy Wix just not going to be in the show anymore? Will they get another ghost to replace her? It was all so sudden, and I did have a good cry at the end of that episode.
I’m slightly mad no one thanked Robin for saving Mike’s life. That was so incredibly cool the way he did that, but it goes unremarked on because they’re all distracted by the fire. I loved his outline becoming visible even to Mike while it was happening. Also, that must be the origin of his light flickering powers!
Now that we’ve had another series of the Captain not coming out, and of Mary getting ‘sucked off’ only a couple of episodes after finally talking about her death, I really think he’s not going to until he’s going to get ‘sucked off’ or the show ends, whichever comes first. Which is a shame, honestly, but does make a lot of sense from a character/world-building perspective and I definitely don’t want to lose him the way we lost Mary.
