Our swan all lit up! I was glad we managed to pull this off. I had a great time at the lantern parade. Grateful I have so many friends that helped lend all their unique skills to making this giant lantern a reality!

I finished the body frame last night. I think we'll have something done in time, but it won't be as decorated as I want. Using string lights instead of making my own light system is a concession to time and I hope it works okay.
My friend said we could use his huge storage space as a studio next year which is great news because doing all of this in my tiny 800sq ft house is Not It.
Are we going to make it in time? 😬😬😬
Last night I built out the head cage that gives some support and also provides a place to tie a cord that will lift the head up and down.
I messed up a lot here, but I think I can make it work. There are so many times with this project I've thought, "I would fix this if I were an actual professional" but I just don't have the time or motivation to fuss. I'm not a precise person, and unfortunately a lot of things about giant puppets are precise.
Anyway, I think it's going to be fine! I am definitely going to meet my deadline to get paid and not a have a total mental breakdown, right?? I am counting on people seeing a giant glowing bird and being like, "ah, yes, cool" and not "wow what sloppy workmanship."
I have already received approval of our lantern proposal, which was unexpected and a nice surprise. They asked if I could do two, which no, not when I'm also working full time, but it's a nice thought.
