Dragon’s Lair - 1984 Complete Series (13 Episodes) - 2011 Warner Archive 2 DVD-R set It was recently announced that Ryan Reynolds, Don Bluth and Netflix are teaming up for a live-action Dragon’s Lair movie based on the 1983 Laserdisc Arcade Game. But back in 1984, Ruby Spears gave us a 13 episode Saturday Morning Cartoon series. The first episode gives us some familiar scenarios from the game, and several villains and monsters from the game show up, but for the most part these are new adventures. To mimic the game the viewer is often shown 2 failed ideas of Dirk’s before showing how Dirk solves a problem. And to reduce violence when Dirk’s sword swings through a fiend, like a gator, the fiend turns into mist.
