Hi! I love the way you blend anime gifs like ace of the diamond! would you please consider a tutorial on how to blend anime gifs like you did for the third gif.
Yeah I'll totally show you! This works best on scenes that have similar lighting or very little white space, but you can do it on anything. I'm using gifs with two very different lighting for the example.
So assuming you've got your gifs pretty much ready - should be the same length, cropped if necessary, sharpened - you're going to duplicate one gif into the other so they're stacked on top of each other. Set the Layer Style of the top gif to "Screen" and it'll look like this:
From here you'll adjust where you want the gifs to be in relation to one another. With the one you referenced in the set, I changed the size until it fit into a smaller spot because I didn't want it obstructing Sawamura's face, I want it to be like something that he's thinking about it so it's sort of behind him.
You'll turn on a layer mask on both gifs, the rectangle with a hole in the middle symbol. With the layer mask selected, switch to your brush tool. Make sure the brush hardness is at 0 and change the brush opacity to 45%. I usually make my brush really big as well, like 175-200px. And then you're going to color over the areas of the gif you want gone.
As you can see here, I'm coloring on the Sawamura gif to reveal the Koushu gif.
Once I get everything set how I want, then I'll add the coloring layers. I'll do a Solid Color Fill layer and clip it to the layer i want changed. For this I set the opacity at 50% and the layer style is Color. I also added a Selective Color layer to reduce the yellows.
But definitely play around with it and figure out what you like and what you're going for!
Hopefully this made sense, please let me know if you have any other questions! I also have some other tutorials that you can find here: My Tutorials
32. What is your favorite tool/adjustment layer in Photoshop
selective color!
41. What is your least favorite part about your gif making process
i use the “load files into stack” method, so my least favorite part of the process would be waiting for the screencaps to l o a d bc it takes a while and i’m impatient.
42. How is your gif folder organized? Is it organized at all?
it’s not organized at all lmao. i mean, i have a folder with some psds that i don’t want to lose, but that’s about it
would you please talk about the anime gif terms your used in your blending tutorial, like scenes with lighting & white space. Any tips about both will help.
sure! if you look at the sawamura/first gif, the background is completely white, sawamura is the only thing in focus. in the koushu gif, he's got a background albeit a muted a one. the lighting of these two scenes is vastly different thanks to that, the sawamura gif being a lot brighter. so when i say its easier with scenes that have similar lighting, i mean choosing scenes that are like that; neither scene has a background thats vastly lighter/darker than the other.
in the gif where i first duplicate them together, you can't really see the koushu gif at all. thats because the lighter/whiter the background, the harder it is for it to be transparent or for things to be seen through it when blending. darker scenes are the opposite, they blend really well since there's less light.
so for scenes with very different lighting you'll have to be more creative or do more erasing/coloring in with the soft black brush.
hello, i was wondering if you use Channel Mixer in your anime gifs coloring?
Hi! Not really; i like having the broader range of color that Selective Color provides. Sometimes I'll use it if I'm really struggling with a gif where I'm trying to change the color of something entirely.
thank you for those tips for first two pics! I’m still messing with curves trying to find something i like, the last pic is really difficult to manipulate 😭
i opened the screencap in photoshop and messed around with it for a bit and this is pretty much where i landed:
so first i started with a curves layer and i zoomed in on the spark of light that looked brightest to me and i zoomed in and picked the lightest pixel which gave me a magenta monstrosity.
brightness layer at 20.
second curves layer that looks like this, selective color, hue/sat layer
vibrance layer at 30 and i duplicated that 2 more times another hue/sat layer like this one but on the red colors, 2 more vibrance on 30 and then 1 more brightness on 20
I'm the anon from before, i meant how to color anime scenes with difficult tint to color.

Oh bless thank you for those examples.
I’m not on my laptop rn so i can give you some tips but i don’t have any in photoshop visual aids to give you at the moment.
So for these first two, i would open the curves adjustment layer and using the white point arrow i would pick a spot somewhere in the circle for each of them. The scene of jugram i’d zoom in as much as possible and find the lightest pixel to use.
If you don’t like how that looks, and for the other 2 scenes where there isn’t really any white points, i would take the line on the curves layer and move it diagonally up/down in the middle until it looks okay to you. And then set a point the same way for the darkest point with the lower third of the line.
I would also mess with the brightness adjustment layer until you find something you like.
I prefer doing things in small amounts and then duplicating layers rather than doing a big adjustment on one layer if that makes sense. Its easier to manipulate imo. And you can also play with the blend and opacity settings of a layer too which can be really helpful.
If you try this and you’re still just like wtf please let me know! I genuinely want to help. I’ll pop it up on my laptop tomorrow and can give you some better advice.
Hmm, probably my Alec is gay - but for the content, not the ugly gifset! Also I liked my one about Alec’s treatment by his family because the scene in ep6 is a favourite of mine. I love all my AU’s, mostly because they’re a fun collaboration between Gowri & I :)
A set that took you a long time/was really hard but you’re really proud of how it came out
My first AU - the fake dating one. 4 different Glee episodes, 2 matt movies, 3 Harry youtube videos and two shadowhunters epsiodes. Yeah, that one was a beast.
How is your gif folder organized? Is it organized at all?
it’s very organised. I have a screenshots folder, a ‘full size’ PSD folder sorted by episode and then a made up gifsets folder which is sorted by the theme - e.g. an AU folder, a malec folder, jimon folder, a PoC main cast, poc minor, then main cast edits etc.
