Creator challenge: from your creations, choose gifs or edits and do a split or side-by-side of before and after adding your coloring

Thought I might bring this gifmaker meme from the media fandom over. Our creations are very often reposted without credits on here, Twitter, and Instagram — this challenge showcases some of the color grading work that goes on behind the scenes in order to make gifs and photo edits look crisp, bright, and cohesive within a set. Sometimes it’s not an easy feat given the footage we have to work with!

Thank you to @rosemciver and @ravenclawwit for tagging me! There is no rhyme or reason to my coloring most of the time. I use an action to sharpen, and then start coloring from there. Usually start with a brightness/contrast layer. I’ve only recently started playing around with using a curve layer to color correct. I miss making gifs, so this was fun!

29. Have you ever posted a set, realized you made a mistake later, but it was already too late? Yeah 😞 Usually I can catch it fast enough, but sometimes I'll see one of my own posts on my dash with hundreds of notes and I notice a typo in the subtitles or something. Or like, skipping frames. And at that point there's nothing I can really do about it. f in the chat

5. What is your favorite movie/TV show to gif? Answered!

49. How much would you say you've improved since you first started giffing? oh my god SO MUCH. i first started giffing a literal decade ago lol, and looking back on some of my older gifs. yeesh. it didn't help that the gif limit was less than 1mb, so there was only so much i could do, and i was always skipping frames and my gifs were so slow a;lksfj;lj. even just within the past month i've learned so much from my gif-making friends, like how using screencaps instead of import frames to layers is SO MUCH BETTER.

14. How long does it take for you to make a set? It really depends on what kind of set I'm making. If I'm just doing a simple set it's usually about 30 minutes, but if I'm trying to do something ~fancy~ a set can take me hours. Although my computer has been a little b lately and everything takes forever now cuz it doesn't know how to export gifs in less than 5 minutes anymore :itscreams:

1. What are your top 3 favorite sets you've made? 1. I'm just so effin' proud of this one lol. 2. I honestly love my entire skam playlist series, but this zoenne one is my favorite (and it deserves more love t b h) & 3. This "Mickey Milkovich as Richard Siken Poems" set is honestly a fav. There is definitely some stuff I'd change if I remade it but I love the concept so much like I kinda popped off not gonna lie ;adslfk;lk.

2. What is your least favorite set you've made? Uh...there are several from my Patrick Brewer in Every Episode series that are....oof. The lighting on that show is SO INCONSISTENT so it's really hard to get a nice cohesive coloring, at least for me...

3. Which of your sets has the most notes? This one of Annie doing a Really Good Job of controlling her facial expression a;dlkfj;lj

5. What is your favorite show/movie to gif? The Falcon and the Winter Soldier 100% lol. Consistent lighting, my beloved!!!

The feels! it’s usually what inspires me to make gifs. If it is angsty, the better :)

25. Old dimensions or new dimensions and why 

I hated the new dimensions at first, ‘cause the gifs didn’t look good in certain blogs, but I got used to it and now I preferred them, especially for the smaller gifs.

31. Do you schedule/queue posts or do you post right after you’re done

It depends. For my TBT olicity or if I make a lot of gifsets in one sitting, I queue. But if I make for an episode or movie I just watch, I post right away.
