Hello world, and hello to the people in their own world; hope you are all doing well. Are you feeling lonely? Desynchronized with the world? Have a seat, make yourself comfortable in this safe space for neurodivergent people.
First and foremost, let me present myself: My name is Léa, I’m a minor, Canadian, and I go by she/her and they/them pronouns. I am diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD or asperger’s syndrome), and am currently looking forward to getting an attention deficit disorder (without hyperactivity) diagnosis soon.
Considering the poor representation neurodivergent people have and the general misinformation that circulates about us, I have decided to create this blog in order to let us ND folks speak for ourselves and to educate some confused neurotypicals. No gatekeeping is welcomed here: I consider anyone with a recognized (diagnosed or not) disorder valid and encouraged to speak up about their experiences and opinions. As for me, I can speak about the general facts of my condition, but as I can’t speak for anyone else, I encourage you to share your thoughts and experiences about whatever applies to you.
As each person is different and might experience a discomfort about different things, here are the triggers I will make sure to tag properly: death (and events resulting in it), existentialism, ableism, suicide/suicidal thoughts*, selfharm*, vomit, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, violence, graphic injuries, consensual and non-consensual NSFW.
*I will not talk about my own experience of those things here. If I believe that the person that decides to talk about it is in danger and/or that their choice of words is triggering, I will not make it public; however, I’ll make sure to post helpful links and hotlines on this blog then. I am not accountable of your wellbeing, just like you are not of mine.
Here’s what I will not tag unless asked to: food, body parts as NSFW, specific content/creators, specific phobias, ironical tags.
If you are neurotypical and want to be heard about something, here’s what I will accept in asks and submissions:
Any question about the process of getting your own diagnosis.
Asking for advice on how to actively help neurodivergent people, whether it be for us in general or a specific person in your life.
For the writers out there, I’ll be very glad to help you fact check any autistic character you want to add to your story.
Help you understand an ND person’s behavior irl that worries/confuses the shit out of you. You have to be respectful and clear about where you’re coming from when asking for me/us to help with this.
Here’s what I will NOT accept:
Disrespect in ANY form: slurs, mockery, stereotypes, you know the deal.
Infantilizing. We get enough of that on a daily basis, please don’t bring that shit here.
Rants about someone’s behavior that annoys/frustrates you with no intention to learn and/or help. Those will be deleted and, when I see fit, I’ll leave you a short message (dm if posted on public, on my blog if anonymous) explaining why I won’t answer your ask/submission.
Speaking over us: claiming what we can or can’t choose to do, like or think. This also goes for gatekeeping within ND people, which is something I do not accept in any form.
With that being said, I hope you find yourself safe and respected in this space; I don’t want there to be any taboo, and as long as you stay respectful and considerate of everyone’s different experiences, make yourself at home here.
