Giift introduces herself with debut single ‘Fed Up’
‘Fed Up’ is the striking debut single by 17-year-old DIY-artist, Giift. She is about to carve out her own laid-back sound that transcends limitation making ‘Fed Up’ one of the most exciting new releases this year.
Life is confusing. So is love and growing up – not to mention the Danish language or the pronunciation of the tongue-twisting letter “å”. Within the first few seconds of ‘Fed Up’ we’re presented to these issues and feelings that tell more than the story behind a song but also the story of an artist.
She was born in Pretoria, South Africa, on February 18, was adopted and grew up to be who she is today: a small-town kid straight outta Havnsø, Denmark, named Klara. Her given name was Giift. And actually,Giift proved to be a gifted girl. On her acoustic guitar, she writes her melodies and innermost thoughts and unfolds them with a voice beyond her years and a boundless, self-taught way of producing harmonies and musical layers making her sound stand out and portray a young girl whose mind, body and soul becomes her music.

Artist monikers are codes, mantras, advertisements to one’s work and soul ( and often no vowel exercises in SEO). For the debut effort of artist Giift, that notion is no different but it is also an obvious suggestion of offering: a story from a stranger, notes to be hummed, word to be sung that altogether form so much more than their disparate parts.
Giift, the moniker of 17-year-old Klara, originally from Pretoria South Africa, was adopted into a family out of the very small town of Havnsø, Denmark. And her cross-continent upbringing is reflected on “Fed Up,” a song about being young, confused, and worried about being appreciated. Delicately steamed over an acoustic guitar, Giift’s voice is bare and raw, hiding nothing, including the beautiful tones she earnestly croons. It is a gift of understanding, a nod to youthful anxiety, and it will make today, Giift’s birthday (Happy birthday Klara) so much the better for soaking it in.
