Because Kelley Stack is the actual worst and Gillian Apps doesn’t deserve to have the award invented in her honour associated with such a person.

Unfortunately, the inventor of the award didn’t add any such rule. I’m sure that person regrets her error.

so its nearly the end of the season, who are the front runners for your Appsolade award?

I got distracted by the Olympics, so I didn’t do a front runners post, but I will post the finalists and winner early next week.

If you’re really eager, I’m sure you can look at the stats and do the calculation to see who the winner will be though.

I have excellent news for everyone! Jess Jones has clinched this year’s Gillian Appsolade along with the Angela James Bowl (in a tie with total nobody, Marie-Philip Poulin). This is a momentous occasion because it’s the first time one player has won both titles. The closest before this was Jayna Hefford in 2010-11, with an Appsolade win and a second place ranking for points.

The only runner up for this year’s Appsolade was Jones’ Brampton teammate, Jamie Lee Rattray.

2016-17 Gillian Appsolade update

Here’s the CWHL stats update everyone has been waiting for!

If the season ended today, there would only be two finalists for the Gillian Appsolade, Jamie Lee Rattray (40) and Jess Jones (53). In true Appsolade tradition, they both play for Brampton. Of course, the season is not over and Jones is not guaranteed to win. In fact, despite having the highest Appsolade score at the moment, she is close to being out of the running because her penalties to points ratio just barely scrapes by on the penalty side. But it would be remarkable if she could win the Appsolade and remain the top scorer (which is admittedly unlikely). It would be the first time the Appsolade winner also won the Angela James Bowl.

Players on the cusp of an Appsolade nomination are Cathy Chartrand, Karell Emard and Laura Fortino.

I have disheartening news for everyone. Kellie Stack has won this year’s Gillian Appsolade, along with the Angela James Bowl (last year, Jess Jones became the first player to win both awards in the same season).

The runners-up for this year’s Appsolade were Sarah Lefort (Montreal), Hanna Bunton (Vanke), and Brooke Webster (Vanke).

The 2015-16 CWHL season ended with only two finalists for the Gillian Appsolade. Brampton Thunder’s Rebecca Vint is the winner with 68 points and the Toronto Furies’ Natalie Spooner is the distant runner-up with 50 points.

Congrats to Rebecca Vint and the Brampton Thunder. The Appsolade is now back in Brampton where it belongs after a couple of years in Boston.

2015-16 Gillian Appsolade update

I know you’re all wondering who the likely contenders are for the Gillian Appsolade this year, so here’s a little update.

If the season were to end today, the finalists would be Jess Jones (40), Jamie Lee Rattray (36), Jillian Saulnier (32), Brittany Esposito (30) and our would-be winner, Natalie Spooner (45).

Of course the season is not over, so any of those five could end up with the award. In addition to the current favourites, Caroline Ouellette (last year’s runner-up), Rebecca Vint and Laura Fortino are all close to becoming finalists for this year’s award.
