Last Sunday, I took the plunge and went to church. It’s a Unitarian church which is different than your traditional Christian church. No mention of any one God or Jesus. It’s all open to interpretation.
My aunt offered to go with me, having been to this church before, hoping to introduce me to a few people she knew. It was super cloudy that morning, looking fit to rain all day. As we left, the first thing happened: the sun began to peek out just as we made our way to the car to leave. I thought it a cool happening and we drove off.
As we got closer to the town where the church was, a partial rainbow had formed in the sky. We admired its beauty as we drove and continued on.
We arrived at the street where the church was. The sun was shining, a gentle rain was falling and a full rainbow appeared. I believe in signs and such things, and this was a sign if ever I saw one.
The service itself was very different. I’ve only ever been to ones that talked about God and Jesus, not ones that just allowed you to do what you wanted or worship who you wanted. Everyone was kind, sweet, welcoming and humble. The pastor was also kind (though I think he tried a bit too hard to be humorous at times). Overall, it was different, but has me wanting more. It has me wanting to go back and be a part of a fellowship again...next time, I will be alone in my worship, which is kind of how I want it for now.
To have my aunt with me the first time was welcoming, as she introduced me to at least three people she knew. Now, I’m not alone. Not like I’ve been alone, but I’m not a stranger in this church anymore. Maybe, this is the one I’ll call home?
My other friend was curious about it (he goes to a different church) so maybe I’ll have him tag along one week. And another week, I’ll try his church. I’m open to possibilities. This one feels the most like home to me. I hope this works out...I hope the last two months of the year can end as well as this year began.
