Welcome to gingerrepresentation, home to all of your favorite ginger icons!
Ginger, auburn, strawberry blonde, orange, red, and even some shades of pink; it doesn't matter, if it's ginger to you, then it's ginger enough for us.
Is your fave not ginger, but you think they should be? You can send them in anyway, and we might ginger-ify them for you! You can also submit your own ginger edits (they'll get posted much faster that way) (NO WHITEWASHING).
This blog is run by two mods, Ellis (they/them) and Magnolia (she/her).
Now, as for the rules:
Please only send one character per ask or submission (or one group of characters that you want on the flag together, e.g. siblings and such).
There's no definitive blacklist, but some submissions may be rejected due to the mods' comfort level with the media.
Finally, here is our flag and what each color means!
Red represents both red hair and the constant battle against sunburn, the dotted white represents the typical pale skin with freckles, and the two shades of orange represent the different shades of ginger hair.
You know what I like about Deirdre (the girl)? Her finely tuned sense of tact.
Deirdre is a faery raised in a human orphanage (with no clue of her faery nature), and James is a half-Romani city boy (and human) who is a huge nerd fascinated by studying faeries. His father is an extreme anti-faery general, who would like to kill all the faeries in Neo-London (and in England), but James doesn’t let that stop him.
Though it does become a problem when the two decide to leave the city, searching for James’s disappeared Romani mother, and, at that time, Deirdre’s long-dormant magic is activated and starts shooting off, breaking things and wrecking cars.
Not really subtle, is it? But neither is she, as shown above, so I suppose it suits her.
These two kids are from my YA urban fantasy/dystopian book The Changeling’s Fortune, and while the book isn’t technically a comedy, it’s still got a lot of character-driven humor. So I wanted to share this comic and the book with ya’ll, just in case you enjoy my sense of humor/books about faeries/books about magic-obsessed nerds/or even just books with ginger and/or Romani characters.

Happy Love Your Red Hair Day!
Did you know that November 5th is National Love Your Red Hair Day? Started in 2014 by redheaded sisters, this celebrations counter days like... “Kick a Ginger Day” :/
“We wanted to create a national recognized day of the year that empowered redheads to LOVE their hair. But, most of all, it’s a reminder for women [and men!] everywhere, redhead or not, to love their unique qualities.”
-- Stephanie Vendetti, Co-Creator of How to Be a Redhead
Today we will celebrate with books & films featuring characters with red locks and also a few books about red hair itself! I love characters that aren't the “redheaded stepchild” featured in horror films like Child's Play. We love our red hair, we have souls, and we may just have a touch of magic to us as well!
Check out these awesome redheads in fiction, nonfiction, and film (under a cut because we’re not evil) and feel free to add your own!
