Hte Da Win, Hser Ku, and Naw Doh will be cooking these ginger, turmeric, and taro leaves from our farm for their harvest celebration at @novickurbanfarm on Saturday. We met this morning and they told me about their lives beginning in Burma, escaping through the jungles to find refuge in Thailand, and eventually finding home here in Philadelphia, each time bringing soil with prayers to stay in their new homes a long time. They are grateful to have places here to continue growing the foods that taste like home: peppers, eggplants, spilanthes, pumpkin leaf, ginger, and so on. They provide several varieties of their favorite seeds through Truelove Seeds, and we visit each other’s farms and share and learn from each other regularly.
