I like thinking about Otae deciding to tell the news about the revival of their dojo and Obi Hajime’s return not only to Shinpachi but to Gintoki and Kagura as well. Like we have seen Otae and Shinpachi sharing news between them alone together, but that time they decided to include Gintoki and Kagura.

I like thinking about how in the choice of potential future instructors, Gintoki was Number One on Otae and Hajime’s list. Like the Shimuras trusted and valued him enough for their dojo. He was the only one selected out of all the people they knew.

Kondou and Kyuubei invited themselves over later (out of jealousy at first but then sincerely later).

But still at the ending of Beam Saber, the Shimuras still went on their vacation with the confidence of Gintoki and Kagura and the promise that both of them will look after and prepare the dojo for the revival of classes.

And later in the Shimura Secret Technique arc, Gintoki (and Kagura) were still the ones who were able to hold classes that stayed true to Otae’s vision when Shinpachi and Kyuubei’s methods had been ineffective. Gintoki was also the one who was able to completely interpret Shimura Ken’s instructions for Shinpachi.

Gintoki and Kagura (Yorozuya) are already intricately woven in the fabric of the Kodoukan dojo and the Shimura family and I love that.

I love that for them.

Sacchan is always insinuating that Tae has something for Gintoki or that she is always planning to do something for please him, but she never does it with Tskki which the audience clearly knows she likes him, it's funny 😆

Gintoki and Otae Face Off Panels are a combination of Comedy and Serious Arcs. Usually it happens when they have to challenge/confront each other's ideas/beliefs on equal ground.

The last one from the Final is a bit different because Takasugi is the one narrating while Otae was handing over Gintoki's bokuto.

Tae being the first to notice something was off about Kintoki replacing Gin, still is one of the cutest decisions ever.

sure, gintoki thinking about otae in every new place they end up is just him equating her with home and kabukichou in his head;

sure, otae talking about gintoki and yorozuya every chance she gets when she is with other people is her just being shinpachi’s sister;

sure, gintoki always asking or including otae’s help in aspects which involve women is him being selfish;

sure, otae always asking for gintoki’s assistance when she doesn’t understand men or her brother’s habits is her being immature;

sure, gintoki barging into an arranged marriage without an initial wish or prompt because he was bothered to see otae cry was just for shinpachi;

sure, otae making sure shinpachi and kagura are always by gintoki’s side and calling gintoki their leader is her just being concerned about shinpachi;

sure gintoki knowing the kodoukan house and dojo by heart is just because he’s close with shinpachi;

sure, otae being left in charge with the yorozuya office, bringing other people into the yorozuya office and otae protecting the yorozuya office (plus otose snack bar) was just because she’s shinpachi’s sister;

sure all of kabukichou submitting their requests to otae when the yorozuya was in another planet was just because she’s close with shinpachi;

sure, otae being one of the three people aside from his employees gintoki desperately wants back by his side is just because she’s shinpachi’s sister;

sure, otae is annoying and useless;

sure, gintoki and otae aren’t friends or aren’t close at all;

sure, otae hates gintoki’s guts;

sure, otae and yorozuya aren’t important to each other.

The best thing abt gintae is that they’re actual buddies. Not in the “I will hang out with u during my free time” kind of buddies. They have other people for that. Gintoki has Hasegawa ans Otae has Kyuubei.

GinTae are buddies in the sense of

“I will share my culinary creations with my brother and our friends (Kagura and Gintoki) coz I love them and their reactions are always great and genuine;

I will hang out in their house coz they have a new kotatsu;

It’s been so long since we’ve all had hotpot, let’s celebrate tonight;

oh we should go to ski resort together it would be fun;

let’s eat ice cream together on this hot day;

hey let’s all buy clothes together since we’re already here;

She can just stay here and wait for her brother and our other friend to come back;

Let’s just have your brother take care of all of us, we are all equally sick anyway;

And more”

It’s the little scenes of everyday life that gets me. Add in the teasing and the scams, the bickering, and the selfless love and actions without any sweeping declarations.

GinTae is a deep strong friendship that grew with time, with strife and with relaxation, like a plant that’s been taken care of amidst sun, rain, typhoon and drought. It’s great.

So, from the 4 people who i remember which assumed that Gin and Tae were in a relationship, or one of them have feelings for each other.

Obi-Wan and Bimbokousai: both know Tae since from childhood, and were close to her

Otose: literally Gintoki mother figure, she knows him from a time ago (at least is what it seems from the flashbacks).

Sacchan: compared to other characters above, she isn't that close to them, but she knows them enough, to understand that they have a strong bond this is why Tae is a threat.

The amazing thing about writing for GinTae is that at some point, I have to include Shinpachi. And I say it’s amazing because it ties me to the story, to where everything started, to Lesson 1. It is beautiful because it reframes my mind to a clearer perspective. And it works every time. It’s a humbling experience, and a challenge too, ngl.

There is never a dull day for GinTae and Shimura family, I suppose :D
