hi dispatch fandom i wanted to redesign waterboy for the fucks and shittles, big ol explanation bout his design below
Analyzing his current design now, his suit is def for swimming, specially w the goggles and bright tones. I conceptualized my redesign based on the possibility that we could've had a training arc with WB/Pheno and push them to their full potential, with WB he could work on his insecurities and take control of his life. I feel like the swimsuit is, aside from keeping him dry, an excuse for his lack of control and awareness of what he can do, he put on the thing that wasn't too flashy or forward.
This design highlights his growth from a swimmer to a fish, the natural inhabitant of the water, signifying that he's become one with his powers and got it mostly controlled. His hair is dry and it ends up a bit poofy and curly, might've gotten the idea from his granma's hair curlers :]
Since his occupation at SDN is janitor, my brain automatically went to those cleaner fish, and coincidentally they have the same colors as WB. It's poorly depicted, but his suit is supposed to be scaly and stuff. I added a vest-like pattern around his chest to resemble janitor uniforms, most I've found online have a vest sort of thing going on. Shoulder pad things I added for silhouette and to resemble fins or some shit, same deal with his thigh-fins. He also has "wet floor sign" motifs because wet
Finally, my favorite part, his fuckass boots and gloves. Both of those items have little openings to allow the flow of water, for his gloves (which are industrial gloves) to resemble gills, and for his soles to let him glide around on slippery surfaces like a pretty little ice skater. His boots are very much inspired by fish tank platforms, they are hollow inside with his right heel having a clay fish for no other reason than "fis cute". The rim of his boots are also colored to look like waves.
The original concept was supposed to be a flowy oceanic vest, keeping the fish tank platforms, prioritizing the theme of water and the ocean, but I reconsidered and scrapped it because it didn't seem fitting for his character.
