not to be pushy, and i understand if you don't want to answer, but is the Ghost in the Shell fic fully abandoned?

Oh gosh no, not at all. I had a VERY rough year last year, and a little into the year before. Health issues, medication issues, axolotl died, dog died, three family members died and four family friends died. Last year/the end of 2024 was like. Hell.

However! People have. Hopefully stopped dying. I have a new dog who's a very good boy. My health issues are constantly being addressed but they're more managed now, and I have some more diagnoses that help. I also have a rollator now, so I'm able to walk around more instead of relying on either my janky scooter or my heavy ass wheelchair. B)

I yesterday just finished plotting out the finale of GitS entirely. I'd had it vaguely formed in my head before, but I was absolutely not happy with how I was ending it. Felt too cheesy and lacked a ton of messages that I need to drive home and a satisfactory full circle of the foreshadowing that I'd placed. THEN. OUT OF THE BLUE.

I started reading books again. :)

I cannot say this enough but if you want to write, READ. READ SO MUCH. IT'S SO GOOD FOR YOU. And not just fanfic, either! Read real books! Go to the library it's so chill there. Take off a ton of books from the shelves and just read the first pages. See which ones sound interesting.

I read Annihilation and the rest of the Southern Reach series by Jeff VanderMeer and my brain imploded, I loved it. Also Pet by Akwaeke Emezi was beautiful. I also read Borne by Jeff VanderMeer, which weirdly enough made me think of Ghost a lot, even though the messaging is completely different. The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones was a great horror book.

Anyway yeah. I read a ton. I'm currently reading House of Leaves (I'm dying help me) with my friend Li. I recommend reading it with a friend, or a group. Shit's fucked.

I'm rambling.

All of that to say, I got inspired to write GitS again with a heavy vengeance. I'm probably going to do a 2003 rewatch some time soon, and I'll sprinkle some Rise in there as well. I need to check out those season 2 episodes more.

I plotted the finale of GitS and I'm much more happy with it now. I hope to terrorize you all soon. 🥰

Ghost in the Skulls part 3 coming or not?

Idk about Ghost in the Skulls but Ghost in the Shell Part 3 is going to be coming the week after Part 2 is finished.

Transporting over from ao3 cuz I so wanna yap a bit on Donnie’s mystics:

I like thinking about the creation of Donnie’s AIs so much in the scope of his mystics manifesting subtly on two fronts:

1) Each AI was created through an act of love toward his family- Albearto for April, the bed for Splinter, and SHELLDON for his brothers. So for an untrained, unawakened mystic user without a conduit weapon, having his power bleed into his work in the form of sentience is such a fun concept.

2) Each AI was created with love toward the machine itself. I can see that also contributing toward the AI being given sentience through how much pride Donnie has for his work. And because ninpo is powered by familial love- of course that ends up manifesting as a parent/child dynamic. This is most obvious with SHELLDON, but there was glimmers with the bed and Albearto too. Donnie did try to give Albearto a birthday party in the chaos of that episode. </3

In terms of Donnie’s actual ninpo manifesting- I can see these details being why his powers ended up being what they were. Unlike R/L/M- Donnie didn’t have a physical conduit for his power, so his power had to get creative and adapt to fit his way of doing things.

I also agree that Donnie not having any sort of proper conduit for his mystics made things start happening! Especially when his brothers started using mystics, it started leaking out, in a way. I especially like this because it's kind of hinted at that Donnie could be the strongest mystics user, it's just that he's never really applied himself fully to mystics, whereas Mikey obviously does in the future.

hello! i am but a humble tmnt fan who has been obsessed with ghost in the shell since... honestly i'm not sure, but it's been quite a while. i've strayed in and out of the fandom since then, but it's always been my go-to fic rec. it's so well-done, and the concept itself has stuck with me for good. i was reminded when i started getting emails for new updates, naturally, and in the time since i first read gits, i've picked up more skills. gits has reached an intimidating size, so i don't want to promise anything, but i was wondering if you would be okay with a podfic of gits? i couldn't remember if you'd ever made a blanket permission statement anywhere, or otherwise mentioned podfic, and couldn't find anything with a search of your blog (although tumblr's search functions leave much to be desired) so i figured i'd ask—apologies if you've answered elsewhere!

Podfic is when you read it out loud, right? Like an audiobook? I wouldn't mind that at all. I'd been sort of planning on doing it eventually but. THERE IS SO MUCH OF IT... THAT'S SO MUCH READING... And I do Not have a good mic or anything. But you can feel free to do that if you'd like! I would be very interested to hear how other people would read it. :)

sorry if this has already been asked, but are you gonna pick up any unused rise episodes for gits? Like Donnie and his pumpkin that comes to life or Mikey and the jellyfish mutant that turns his brothers (or maybe ghost :eyes:) into toddlers

I actually thought about doing this, but GitS is already so long and I still have the rest of the season and the movie to do. I've thought about completing the main story then doing a sort of side story where there are all the little chapters of episodes that could have happened, or how certain episodes happened in GitS universe that I couldn't make enough of a chapter about.

Idk! depends on if people are interested in seeing those episodes in particular, I guess.
