#GiveUsLegends and give Credit where Credit is due. There would be no Quinlan Vos without the Expanded Universe. #TrueSWCanon Trivia: Quinlan’s Jedi Master was Tholme. While on a mission with him, a young Quinlan discovered the twilek girl, Aayla Secura. He would one day become her Jedi Master. His wife, Khaleen Hentz, he met while acting undercover to infiltrate Dooku’s dark Jedi allies. She stuck with him no matter which side he seemed to serve or how close he came to the Dark Side. Their son, Korto, was given the same name he used undercover.
The Rebellion to save the Expanded Universe
I have some responses to this: http://www.theforce.net/v3-story/frontAnger_Leads_To_Hate_Inside_The_Movement_To_Save_The_Expanded_Universe_160167.asp
There was no writing on the wall for the end of the EU because George Lucas had already repeatedly said there would be no Episode 7.
there is no way that an Episode 7 would justify demolishing the Entire Old Republic error featured in the video games.
Even if they did not use the so called "legends' for their movies and stories, their is no justification for chopping off those stories off. Not only uncontinued, but not even finished. How did Vader escape Starkiller? How did Jaden Korr's peculiar resurrection work out? How did Ben Skywalker deal with Vestara Kai? Are we running out of paper and ink in the world that they can't even continue these stories alongside the others?
We are not ignorant of the way Disney works. What we DO know is they have betrayed Walt Disney's ideas, for he didn't even believe in sequels. Walt Disney told stories for entertainment, family value and not just profit.
We know the only way that we'll have any impact to to impact those profits. They can claim all they want that Save the Clone Wars and We Want Leia campaigns made no difference, that the execs never noticed. But then, are the execs doing their own research? Not likely. They make decisions based on money: and if we who have spent small fortunes on Star Wars all our lives suddenly stop spending, it will be noticed by someone. They'll wonder where the money is. You don't profit off a franchise by alienating the people who have spent the most on it. Casual fans en masse may spend a lot on the movies, but in between the movies they expect money to come in from books, toys and other products. And casual fans don't buy them en masse, collectors do. Die hard fans do. Kids? Well, there parents do, but for many of those kids its a fad and the money will fizzle out.
And if seige tactics are considered a weakness, consider this: individually we are ignored. But en masse, we prove we are organized...which may still be ignored until the profit margins show we are not just talking. We are putting our money where are mouth is. We are the die hard Star Wars addicts who flat refuse to buy from Disney. Addicts Disney. Congratulations on curing addicts.....who will never buy from you again.
Do we have people using military terms? Of course. Star Wars itself began with a rebellion. We are quoting Star Wars itself, line for line. We know it by heart, we don't need to look it up. Do people veer off subject on the posts? Of course. Do people forget to be polite? Unfortunately yes. But that does not make the facts any less true. And the fact is, even if we don't like having our stories over written, we might be far more kindly disposed if we knew Disney still had any sense at all: continuing the Expanded Universe stories even alongside would only profit them more.
"The more you tighten your grip, the more star systems will slip through your fingers" ~ Leia to Tarkin, ANH
The more Disney tightens its grip and refuses compromise, the more money and goodwill it loses. And that makes no sense at all.
Jedi Wisdom from the EU: on opponents
The wisdom of the Jedi lasts throughout the ages.
"...when I kill, I only win a fight. It's a small, small victory. There are greater battles to be won- battles of the heart. Sometimes, with patience and reason and by setting a good example, I have won more than a fight. I have turned my adversary into a friend. ~ Qui-Gon Jinn to a 12 year old Obi-Wan Kenobi ~Jedi Apprentice #1 Rising Force by Dave Wolverton
...
"I've been in many battles and yes, I've had to kill. But I've learned from the light side of the Force that it's better to do everything in my power to ... turn a situation." Luke "But surely a nightsister or anyone else seduced by the dark side would not hesitate to kill you." Tenel Ka
"Exactly! ... Those who use the light side do not believe in the same things as those who use the dark side. But we can only demonstrate our differences by acting our beliefs. Otherwise, we're not so different after all." Luke
Luke Skywalker and Tenel Ka, ~Young Jedi Knights, Shadow Academy by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta
We must successfully be ticking someone off if facebook has blocked the event of #giveuslegends. What's wrong Disney? Don't want people to know you are lying about the idea that the EU all worked together? Or that we are being unanswered questions?
When a corporation or body can't answer the question but instead choose to block it, that tells you they are hiding something.
#giveusmorelegends How did Vader escape Starkiller? #giveusmorelegends Jaina Solo must fulfill her destiny as Sword of the Jedi! #giveuslegends Ben Skywalker & Vestara Kai have unfinished business! #giveusmorelegends The split between light & dark side is imminent! More Dawn of the Jedi! #giveusmorelegends How & why did the Jedaii leave Tython?
We will not give up until we have answers!
Stories and Heroes are FOREVER
There is a reason I turn into a furious defender when someone threatens my stories. You threaten my stories, you threaten my heroes too. And heroes should be forever.
From White Collar to Star Wars, stories evolve and continue. They grab your heart and a character becomes part of your life. They are almost like a friend or family member (albeit an entirely one sided relationship.) You learn from them, ache for them, want to encourage them.
When USA network decided to drop White Collar while it was mid story arc, and still successful I swore to fight it. And I swore I'd never watch that channel again. And I haven't.
Now I'm in the same position with Disney and it's gutting of the Star Wars expanded universe. Contrary to their claims, the EU just kept getting better and better, spanning millennia of tales and yet still having room for more. They largely meshed, with only minor hiccups.
Why does it matter so much?
Because....these are my HEROES they are trying to kill. Not even just turn into an alternate timeline, completely diminish them as merely legendary, myths of the past with only a grain of truth.
Heroes are forever. Mara Jade. Jaina Solo. Tenel Ka. Ben Skywalker. Anakin Solo. Corran Horn. Nomi Sunrider. Revan. On and on.
If the sun threw out a solar flare at the right angle, it would wipe out all our fancy tech and our economy along with it. Goodbye TV and internet and money since it's tied up in computer information systems.
What would be left? Stories. We are long past needing a movie screen to see Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Lando and our favorite droids. The story has grown and evolved and you can't just revert it to mere childhood. Stories and heroes are FOREVER and should not be wiped out for money, profit, or the ego of a big corporation. Because money, profit, technology, all that stuff those companies rely on is NOT forever. Money dies. Technology changes or gets wiped out or breaks.
But stories don't. You can't kill an idea. And you can't subvert it without a fight. Those very heroes will fight for the right to life, and they taught the rest of us. They taught that the biggest Empire can be beaten when people join together. They taught don't give up, and when you make a mistake or get hurt, regroup and battle on.
