It was a matter of making time. Laura had her own set of priorities that she cultivated through years of learning to grow through trauma and adversity. Before Logan, she had been alone. Her mother had been there and then she was gone -- Laura’s own role in her Sarah’s demise would always haunt her. Logan hadn’t always provided a good template of family, though, and especially not in the beginning. He had left her. Laura had hated him for it in the beginning but now she knew that he was doing his best. People like them? They weren’t coded to be emotional or open. He had been learning right alongside her. Laura had learned to love her father and the strange dynamic they had. Akihiro had been more difficult, but the two had ended up in a fine place.
And then, there was Gabby.
Gabby had changed everything. Laura loved her almost instantly once they got past the hurdle of Gabby’s origin and the actions of the Sisters. Laura had changed her life to accommodate her younger sister and she had never regretted it for a second. It felt like at times she was in danger of losing herself to her primal desires and base instincts -- the supposed animal in Laura that they tried to groom into a weapon would rear its ugly head. Having her sister -- having Gabby -- reminded her just how human she was. Mutant. Whatever.
Becoming an X-Men had ruined the routine that they had. Before Laura had moved to the Treehouse in Manhattan, they had cohabitated the Kinney Habitat in Krakoa. But then the Vault had happened. Laura had lost a part of herself and didn’t know how to tell Gabby how lost she had been. She had left the distance between them grow right up until Gabby had been murdered. Now, she was trying to do better once more. Laura was putting the effort in she never should have lapsed with.

I’ll go back if you really want me to, but the place is nowhere near the Gates.”
