Single-joke pages are prized by Duck collectors. They tell an entire story in a single page, and are as rare as duck's teeth. This outstanding example tells of Uncle Scrooge's car, the most economical car Scrooge has ever owned. Is he able to make a point with his spendthrift nephew, Donald Duck? This witty page was written and drawn with care by William Van Horn, early in his career as a Duck artist.

Duck Comic Reading Club Week 3 - June 15-21

"Son of the Sun" by Don Fuckin Rosa

I'm a big Rosa fan:

So it's safe to say I have some familiarity with this comic book.

Gladstone Comics knew they had something special with Rosa, and they really rolled out the red carpet for him in the pages of Uncle Scrooge.

Don Rosa was an established cartoonist before this, his first official Duck comic. Right away you notice his hyper detailed action scenes

But I what I like most about it is that he is clearly struggling to get a handle on how to draw Duck faces- they are either redrawn from Barks panels or else cursed images like these:

Anyway, aside from its historical importance it's a banger of a McDuck vs Glomgold story and it even calls back to past Barks continuity, Roy Thomas style. If you haven't read it (and you can't find a copy of Uncle Scrooge 219 because I bought them all), the nice Fantagraphics hardcover is the way to go.
