So I just heard that new Jason Derulo song called Talk Dirty...... seriously, why haven't we got rid of Glam Rap? Why, Why!, WHY!!!!
To Rap Fans...
I personally think that rap fans should try and popularize the term Glam Rap and the meaning thereof, because I think it would close a large chunk of the rhetorical gap between rap fans and those people with a casual disdain for the genre.
Because, I know I found it revelatory when I first heard the term. "Oh!" I thought to myself, "That's why I'm not a fan of rap! It's because the only stuff that gets any airplay is the Rap equivalent to the terrible brain-dead hair metal we white people had in the 80s, while the actual quality stuff languishes in obscurity to those outside the rap community!"
Of course, I could be getting something wrong about this, but that's the way it seems to me anyway.
By the by, as an aside, does anybody reading this know of any good PoC rappers with any songs/concept albums exploring fantasy/sci-fi/horror/"genre" themes. Because, it seems that the only stuff of that nature I've heard of is done by white guys, and I want to know whether that's more due to my ignorance of the genre or due to larger trends within rap.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be heading down to my bomb shelter for the inevitable napalm-y shitstorm...
