The anonymous’ magic dropped Tamatoa just within the edge of a tree line. A gray sky hung low over the towering nearby mountains, and the wind held still with the snow falling slowly over an already pure white ground. The snow was a foot deep, and the woods were dense…
…and silent.
With all the animals tucked into their dens and burrows, nothing could be heard beyond the trees save for the occasional flutter of wings belonging to the seasonal birds. The cold air gave off a distinctively smokey scent of ice, rock, and pine. Most of the branches overhead were scarce of leaves or needles, allowing enough light to filter through and illuminate the area.
A set of familiar pawprints steadily wove through the more open space until they were obscured by the brush. Behind him was evidence of when the prints were unmistakably from human footware.
This was as good a place as any to start.
