Weekend Warriors: This Weekend is a Go
4/25/18

My family and I are excited for this weekend. The weather’s finally looking good (although you never know, what with Ohio being Ohio), our schedule is open and there’s plenty to do! I’m digging through the calendars on ColumbusMakesArt.com to come up with ideas for our adventures.
I’ve been wanting to introduce my boys to more jazz and blues, and the Columbus Jazz Orchestra performs many of the Legends of Rhythm & Blues this weekend at the Southern Theatre. That may be our first stop!
Columbus Children’s Theatre opens their latest production, Annie. Our boys have seen the movie, but not the stage play, so this should be a blast. “Yes, Miss Hannigan!”
This Friday BalletMet features a most wonderful pairing: Beer and Ballet. You can observe their working rehearsal at their studio for Dorothy and the Prince of Oz, then enjoy live music, an art show, dinner from food trucks and beer from Platform Beer Co. just up the street.
The King Arts Complex just opened an exhibition celebrating 50 Years of Black Superheroes. Inspired by the Black Panther comic, the show features a bevy of Columbus artists, and it’s co-curated by artist Bryan Moss and Lyn Logan-Grimes from the KAC. It sounds simply amazing, and I can’t wait to see it.
Speaking of comics, the annual Small Press & Alternative Comics Expo (SPACE) is this Saturday and Sunday at the Northland Performing Arts Center. We have a few friends who exhibit at the annual show, and it’s always amazing to see all the artists’ work.
I also enjoy going to Glass Axis, although it’s been too long. This is the last weekend for their Mini Vitro exhibition, composed of miniature glass pieces created through a variety of hot glass techniques.
We’ll make sure to tag our arts adventures with #artmakescbus this weekend!
