"You're right," John smirked teasingly. "It's beautiful."
Richard scrunched his forehead. His dissatisfaction more than evident.
"You can't see anything."
The two had stopped in place as soon as they set foot into the room. It was a dining room set with a candlelight dinner, but the scenic glass walls were fogged from top to bottom, completely ruining the view.
"We already saw the city on the way here."
"But from up here—," a frustrated look crossed Richard’s face. "You haven't seen it from up here."
"I know." John said, walking over to the window and wiping his hand across the condensation. A patch of the city shined through after, glass sculpted architecture refracting glints of color into the room. Crystallized swans and floral designs on the tops of buildings reminded him of those fancy ice sculptures he'd seen in extravagant weddings. "That's what I liked—," John gleamed toward him with a soft smile, "—that you were trying so hard to impress me."
With that, the frustration in Richard's eyes swept away. He huffed and headed over, swiping his hand through the window too.
"Well, I wanted it to be a little more romantic." Richard narrowed his eyes in playful amusement and pulled John closer as the man got a laugh out. Mostly at the fact he’d erased a heart into the fog.
"I suppose romantic is nice too."
John let his smile settle, the contentment in his eyes mirroring Richard's while glass sculptures and prisms of light framed their embrace in the background behind them.
