It started cuz I just generally ship glisten with anyone (excluding pebble, coal and toodles obvi) cuz I like him and I like exploring his dynamics with everyone BUT MY BRAIN WENT FERAL OVER HIM AND DANDY CUZ OF AN AU I HAVE IN THE WORKS (ill post abt it later when i have more stuff worked out for it)
The general concept is 2 ppl whove got major issues with being ignored (twisted glis not being able to be alone, dandy getting upset when hes ignored at the shop) finding comfort in the other.
Glis and Dandys thing with not being acknowledged/fear of being disliked:
Itd start as a sorta enemies to lovers thing, I do not think theyd like eachother. Glisten would have a parasocial hatred of Dandy for being the star of the show and everything and thinking he deserves the love and attention more, where Dandy just. Does nottt pay attention to him. He doesnt gaf glis is just there. He can do shit. Wtv, dandy has bigger fish to fry
Also in canon Dandy only mentions Glistens teleportation ability as a reason to buy him, with 0 comments on him as a character. Most of the time he does comment on their personalities, the only exceptions being RnD (where he just goes 'Razzle and Dazzle, hehe!' and nothing else), Glisten (he goes 'Glisten? He's pretty handy with that reflection trick of his!' and its just. Onlyyyy his ability being somewhat useful NOTHING ELSE) and Scraps (sorta? He does comment on her talents with 'Scraps is a good choice! She knows how to get out of trouble' but its also like. 'Yea shes skilled at knowing how to deal with things' so it feels more personalized than just 'Ya glis can fuck around with his reflection trick it can be useful'). Even with ppl he clearly doesnt rly like he does actually comment on them as a person
Which is just... so interesting to me cuz Glisten Cannot Handle Being Alone Or Ignored and heres the no1 guy, the star of the show, not rly acknowledging him as a person! Idk I think thatd just rly tick him off and like. Desperately try to get him to be noticed by Dandy and dandy just reads as. Horrifically tired to me. So this would just piss him off like 'Ohhhhh my god stfu bitch idgaf'

SO BASICALLY I think theyre pretty similar to eachother, esp with what theyre scared of (being ignored and forgotten (dandy already feels like this cuz gardenview shut down)) and how they deal with it (being that they dont) and I feel if they realized that abt the other theyd take a lot of comfort in someone that understands them
I think how they got close was Glisten locking in and going 'I need to be close to this man bc hes the most important guy and I can use him to make myself more important' and Dandy was just kind of bored and let it happen? But then eventually they found out 'Oh shit. This guys me fr' and just got. Rly attached to the other. I think theyre very quiet abt their relationship, like ppl know theyre friendly with eachother but they dont know that theyre rly close
I think the fact the 2 of them like the other as a person scares them, both bc they cant handle the idea of losing that and bc they hate themselves and cant see why anyone would like them. Glisten tries to make ppl fall in love with the presented, perfected, version of himself and Dandy has resigned himself to ppl not liking him as a person so he just tries to be useful to ppl so he can get what he wants (tapes, aka. memories of better times he can lose himself in) and also if hes useful to ppl theyll stay. They wont leave him like deliah, devan and arthur did. He molds himself to what ppl want from him so he can stay around them a little longer and gets mad when they dont bc thats not how its meant to go. Also to me, both of them distance themselves from ppl in order to prevent them from losing them
So yea, they find someone who gets them, they find someone who understands them and still stays and they find someone who loves them with all their horrible imperfections and they latch onto that. Its pretty codependent imo? Like they are so paranoid of losing the other bc theyre the on sense of stability they have. Idk I just think theyd sit and listen to the other talk abt wtv they want and just feel comforted by them being there, but neither will confront their actual issues and their relationship kinda makes their fear fester a lot more bc now the stakes are so much higher. I dont think its particularly healthy lol, they both need therapy
Also, Glisten needs the light to shine in so everyone sees him and loves him, but it burns him and makes any imperfection highlighted so while he needs it it terrifies him and Dandy has resigned himself to an ignored darkness hes trying to find wtv scraps of comfort in, but with eachother Dandy can provide shade for Glisten to stop preforming in and Glisten can give Dandy the light he has long since accepted hell never have
