CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY

Jeff can walk in a room full of people and light up everybody’s mood. Jeff is everybody’s friend, he is a great listener. He is faithful and loyal, he knows how to take care of people. He does his best to make people feel at ease, and as loved as possible. He can be quite shy at first, but he becomes the life of the party if he knows the crowd well enough.

He has a big family made up of his parents and his four siblings. They all live in Dayton, Jeff drives there as often as he can. He grew up taking singing, acting, and dancing lessons with his siblings. He loves hanging out with them and Drew, their neighbour and best friends, whenever he’s at home. He bakes with his mom, dances with his sister, and plays video games and guitar with his brothers. He has a very special relationship with his dad, and whenever they ask him who his hero is, Jeff always answers it’s his dad.

He misses home when he’s at Dalton, but he loves school so much that he considers it his second home. He is a brilliant student, he loves his friends – especially his Warbler bros – so much. No matter how badly he misses his siblings, he knows whenever he’s at home that he has another family to come back to.

He’s been studying dance in a studio in Westerville since he moved to Dalton, where he also teaches little kids ballet. Lately he’s been working on his ballroom skills to perfect them. Looking for a dancing partner, he found Allison. The two of them became good friends straight away, and it’s safe to say he spends more time at the studio than his parents think he would. He has people from Juilliard and Boston Conservatory sitting in the audience at recitals, at this point he’s not afraid to admit he dreams big. New York, London, wherever. He just wants to dance for the rest of his life.

Jeff tries to keep a positive outlook on life, even though he had a hard time dealing with bullying in his old school before he transferred to Dalton. He still talks to his old therapist, and most days he’s okay. He has his bad days, though, when he’s all but fine. He won’t show up to class, he won’t pick up the fork, the phone, his Dalton ties from the floor. He’ll disappear for a day and come back shiny and new the following one, like nothing ever happened. The bullying is the reason why he decided to join the Dalton Fight Club, growing up he realized he had to start standing up for himself, although he still struggles with self-confidence.

He adores travelling, he’s picked up the habit of visiting a different European country each summer since he turned fifteen. His favourite quote is “I have never met a person I could not call a beauty” by Andy Warhol. His family always makes fun of him, they tell him he falls in love with every single person he sees. He is the biggest Harry Potter fan, he can stay up all night reading those books over and over and never get tired.

CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY

As their only child, Sebastian was always considered to be his parents’ pride and joy. A gifted boy, intelligent, athletic, charming, he was more than they ever could have dreamed of. He was on track to follow in his father’s footsteps, attend and graduate an ivy league law school, and then settle down and marry a nice woman, and make lots of grand-babies to carry on the Smythe legacy, and they couldn’t be prouder. That is, until Sebastian went through puberty, and told his parents that his dreams for him weren’t ones he shared. He didn’t want to be a lawyer, he wanted to be a dancer, and he didn’t want to settle down with a nice girl. He wanted a boyfriend.

The constant adoration stopped. Family dinners became less and less frequent, until they ended all together. And, for the first time, Sebastian wished he wasn’t an only child. He was lonely. So, on the family’s next annual summer trip to Paris, where his parents still would hardly look him in the eye, he decided to put down his books, go out, and make some new friends. Friends that if his parents had been watching him, would have stopped him from making. Older friends, ones who introduced Sebastian into the world of partying. He learned that if he drank enough, the taste of alcohol stopped being so gross, and even better, he stopped feeling so lonely. Though, maybe that part had more to do with all the attention he was getting from guys, something that he hadn’t been used to before. He’d been a scrawny kid, but puberty had been kind to him. He was now handsome, still all legs, but in a good way, a way that got him the positive attention he so craved. Sebastian Smythe went to Paris that summer a boy, but came back a changed man. Deep down, he wasn’t totally sure if the change was a positive or negative one, but it was here to stay.

This is an excert from right before Nick started his Freshman year, so this would have been a year or so ago, since he’s a Sophomore now. It kind of was a turning point in his life:

Nick let out a long breath and looked around his room. This was ridiculous. His mom was really leaving them, for real. She just…decided she hated it there. Though, he couldn’t say he was surprised; they’d been fighting for ages it seemed. His mom always had something negative to say; always. Nitpicking, starting fights…Nick knew his dad wasn’t the best guy in the world; he forgot things just like everyone else, but he always thought his dad was pretty amazing. There was more to the story, Nick knew that. He couldn’t help the tears welling up in his eyes. He was supposed to leave for school tomorrow; his Freshman year. He’d be boarding – living on campus for the entire year – and all summer he’d been incredibly excited about moving in, getting to know his roommate, and hopefully auditioning for the school acapella choir. Now all he could think about was leaving his dad alone in the house without anyone but maybe his little sister – if she got to live with him and not their mother. Nick picked up some of the clothes he had lying out, folding them into one of his suitcases. He still wanted to go to school, more than anything. His dad was tough, Nick knew that. He shrugged a little and smiled to himself, looking at the photo of him and his dad on his desk. No use being negative about all this. Maybe his dad would be happier, his mom wouldn’t be nagging him all the damn time. Nick tossed the rest of his clothes into the bag without folding them. He felt a bit of his excitement grow in him again when he saw the Dalton blazer hanging on his closet door. This year would be about a new start; a new beginning. Nick couldn’t wait.

CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY

Kurt Hummel was born an only child, which didn’t give him much interaction with anyone close to his own age. Majority of those he interacted with growing up either turned on him because he was seen as too different, or because the parents poisoned their child’s minds as Kurt was always seen as more ‘too feminine’ for a boy. This forced him to entertain himself, which he put energy and time into with his love for fashion, musical theater, and anything involving cooking and baking. While growing up, his mother helped guide him to succeed in every path of his life before she suddenly passed when he was eight-years old.

Without his mother, Kurt closes himself off from the world even more. This could be the reason he prefers the company of his sewing machine compared to anyone his own age in school. And although Burt sees his son struggling, his attempts of help get ignored or pushed to the wayside. It upsets him when he sees that Kurt doesn’t make any friends in his freshmen year, but it upsets him more when his flamboyant son turns everything on its head his sophomore year. He dresses different, as if to close himself off even more, and starts hanging around kids whom Burt doesn’t deem as positive influences. Things only seem to look up when Kurt joins the New Directions, even if he does keep the edgy look. Little does Burt Hummel know the reasons behind the actual change of his fashion choices is more than just teenage rebellion, but a shield against the bullies of McKinley High.

CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY

Born on August 24th, Finn Hudson came into the world tall and ready to go. Really, though. Finn was big, even as a baby, and he’d had a lot of energy from the get go. It didn’t matter that the only adult in his life was his mother, because Finn loved her and knew he’d always do whatever he could to take care of her. He was young when he began to ask questions about where his father was and for a while Carole explained them away, changed the subject, and at one point bought him a drum set as a distraction. Still, he pushed on. When he was eleven, his mother finally explained that Christopher Hudson had died at war, a thought that sat with Finn the rest of his life. Why? Because Finn wanted to be that kind of person. The kind of person who could risk their life for something they believed in so whole heartedly. So that’s how he tried to live his life. He tried to live in order to be half the man he believed his father to be, because after Finn learned of his father’s fate, he had big military dreams as well. Granted, Finn was never the smartest or most in shape that he could be. He took faster to music than he could any other subject in school and while most people hadn’t know about his love for music, they all knew about his ambition for football… half of which only came so he could give his best friend, Noah, a hard time. Of course though, being so tall and a little wobbly on his feet didn’t always fair well for him in the sport, something that became evident when Puck ended up being a football team captain and Finn felt he might as well sit on the sidelines. He was salty, very salty, but hiding it.Not only did he lose out on the captain position, he lost his girlfriend, and a crapton of dignity. So what did he do? He went out to date someone people would expect him to date. He followed the social norms of high school, decided to be a little more shallow, and used his popularity to help him. Except, you know, Puck got the girl and once again Finn knew he was never going to be half the man he wanted. At that point he’d resigned himself to being second best, to not being able to be anything like his father. Which is why he’d started dating Quinn. They both wanted the attention. They both knew a relationship would help them feel better about themselves. And while it wasn’t a relationship on the best of pretenses, they were comfortable with it. You know, even though they were rather certain it couldn’t last when neither of them thought of the other anything but a sibling.

Rachel loved the stage. It was where she felt the most at home and she loved it. It was the place that she felt most herself. It was the one place where she felt truly confident. It was hard for her to find a place like that at her age. She was a teenager who wasn’t necessarily considered to be “popular” and with the constant facial slushies and the mean comments, online and in person. Not to mention the crude drawings in the bathroom. But, when it comes to the stage, when it comes to singing. She was home. She was happy. She could do anything the moment she opened her mouth. So, when she started feeling pushed aside by Sandy Ryerson and felt as if he were running their club into the ground, she had to do something. So she did, and she couldn’t begin to regret it.

Now, they had a new director, Mr. Schuester. While he was just the Spanish teacher and she wasn’t sure that he had any real talent, she had hope. Hope, that he would see how talented she was and let her do the thing she was best. Sing. Perform. Even though she had to audition just like everyone else, she knew she would get in. She would say there was no doubt in her mind, but as she approached the center of the stage, she could feel the beat of her heart start to pick up. What if the Spanish teacher didn’t think she was talented enough? What if she wouldn’t get to live her dream and show everyone that she was a star? 

All of her fears seemed to disappear, the spotlight was on her and she could pretend that she was on a stage in New York. She could pretend that she was belting her heart out to thousands of people. People that had paid because they wanted to hear her sing. Her eyes closed as she took in a deep breath, lips curving upward. “On my own, pretending he’s beside me..” she started singing. Rachel loved the stage. She was home.

CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY

Blaine Devon Anderson was born to Micheal and Pam Anderson, their first child together and younger (half) brother to a show-stopping Cooper. From a young age it was clear that Blaine was special, he excelled at anything he tried, from academics, to music lessons, to making friends, his charismatic, energetic and almost infectiously positive personality made him stand out in a crowd and while he was never quite as talented, loud or outstanding as his older brother - outside of the home he was quickly making his mark on the world.

It wasn’t until he was a pre-teen that his differences from his older brother really began to show, a moodier, darker side of himself showing itself, manifesting in lashing out and occasionally through physical altercations. After a number of these types of incidents at his junior high, Blaine began attending weekly therapy sessions where he soon revealed his reasons for his inner frustration stemming from the fact that he was beginning to realize he was gay, something he feared his rather conservative and traditional family - specifically his father - wouldn’t approve of. He kept this secret close to him, only sharing it with his very accepting older brother.

His ‘deep dark’ secret came to a head when he was in his first year of high school when he was meant to attend a school dance with a date of his choice, a boy he’d been infatuated with for a number of months. Little known to him, he was to be a victim of a group of boys that didn’t understand him and were raised on bigoted values and ended up in the hospital emergency room and outed to his family in the worst of ways. More surprising to him, as he recovered was the support his family offered him and it was the semester after this incident that he transferred to Dalton, one of the only schools in Ohio known for their zero tolerance policies on bullying. Since his transfer Blaine is again excelling, in academics but more specifically in his musical extra curricular as a member of the Warblers and looking to his future as a proud, gay teenager.

While Blaine is happily settled into Dalton, he often feels lonely, missing his parents and brother while living in the boarding wings of the school and still having trouble forming meaningful attachments for fear of betrayal as he was once betrayed before. This hasn’t however barred him from being well-liked and respected throughout his school and glee club, and even vying for a coveted leadership position with the Warblers Council.
