FREE Glitter’n Gold cassette tape with Rockin’ Refund offer. I figured this was scaled back and became the Sizzling Spring Savings cassette and $2.50 refund offer, but it seems this was a call in offer that expired November 29th, 1986 — months before Glitter’n Gold Jem was revealed at the 1987 Toy Fair. @truly_truly_truly_outrageous posted the commercial for the call in. Funny that it says that the cassette comes with “Glitter’n Gold” and two other hits, but “Back in Shape” was the only other song besides the Jem theme. Like the original Jem Free Cassette offer, this cassette should have had all 3 songs from the Glitter and Gold episode. The mythological Craig Phillips doll. It was rumored that Hasbro planned on having a contest in which ever doll (Raya or Craig Phillips) won the contest would become Jem’s new drummer in the cartoon. The rumor was completely untrue and until 2007 we never knew who this male head was. But a Supermaster head mold surfaced with “2, SM, RIO 87” written on it. So this head should have been a new head for the 1987 Glitter’n Gold Rio, to go with the new 1987 smiling Jem. In 1988 when Hasbro’s smaller Maxie doll needed a boyfriend this head was a perfect size to go with the new doll line. One of the factors that manufactured Jem dolls ended up selling off unused and rejected Holograms and Misfits, along with this unused Rio 87 head. Several years ago I discovered a 1994 Hasbro Sindy wedding dress that had the same lace fabric as Glitter’n Gold Jem and it sparked an idea. Then with the 2019 Christmas clearance sales I picked up an LED angle for about $2. We didn’t put up a tree last year, so I didn’t put my Glitter’n Gold Jem Angel together until today — and it worked out beautifully. The inspiration was the angel we had when I was a kid — it was lost to time, but I found a new one and replaced it. Before the Jem dolls came out, I was obsessed with the angle on top of the 1985 Christmas tree and how she reminded me of blonde Jerrica. So I was thinking that I could go to the store and find an angel in each color to make the Holograms and the Misfits. Happy Glitter’n Gold Day!!! 35 years ago today, the Glitter and Gold episode aired for the first time. It was the last time we saw Jem with pink make-up and the first episode with the Glitter’n Gold make-up and Flash’n Sizzle purple make-Up — along with over half of the new 1987 fashions. But it wasn’t always going to be an episode — it was going to be a theatrical release. With Kimber having to take over as Jem, because Jerrica was too jealous of Jem. So the Talent Search was to find Kimber’s replacement. Instead of looking for a new member, the Misfits were in clubs looking for a new opening act. They found the Mongrels, while Techrat was working on a synthesizer with an AI named Entropy. With Entropy the Mongrels sounded good, a little too good, because Entropy was hypnotizing the listeners to think they sounded good. Then the synthesizer set his sights on take over the world. Jerrica had enough and took back over as Jem and used Synergy to defeat Entropy, with the help of the Misfits. The Mongrels and Entropy were going to get their own episode, but that never happened. Then Entropy was going to be worked into the Stingers storyline, but the was canceled before that happened. Happy Glitter’n Gold Week!!! It wouldn’t be a brand new Jem episode without brand new music. Glitter and Gold was one of the last episodes with three brand new songs — only two episodes of the following thirty nine had three new songs. Hasbro request that one song in each new episode be a reused song from previous episodes to save money. It’s also the last episode with a Jem and the Holograms/the Misfits combo song, the later combo songs had the Stingers. This Master Tape is a 3-track master sent to Mexico so they could translate the music and put Spanish versions of the songs on the Mexican doll cassettes. With the new Jem product for 1987, Hasbro had to update the Jem Licensing Kit — so the Hasbro licensees, could release new clothing, bedding, beauty supplies, books, etc., with the new characters and theme. The 1st Quarterly and Media Guide shows where and how the new line was promoted. This Promotional Poster has the key points to sell the line and was also used as an industry ad. Marketing Sheets show the new mail-in offers for 1987. And of course, the 1987 Toy Fair Catalogs are the biggest promotional tool to get the toy stores and toy departments interested in buying the product to put on their shelves. The US Toy Fair Catalog has the new line, the Line Art catalog has illustrations to use in newsprint ads and other promotions, and the Italian Toy Fair Catalog has a completely different look.
