Portwell Breakdown

I can’t even begin to praise how well the writers have done with Portwell in season 2.

So we know EJ bought Gina the plane ticket back in season 1 and Gina referred to him as a “a friend bought me a last minute flight back” and ever since then they became friends. Before season 2, we get the FaceTime call of Gina being grateful and paying EJ back for his sweet gesture, and we get a hint that EJ maybe has developed a crush when he gets sad she hung up on him. Starting season 2, we see them constantly standing next to each other and having cute little background moments, so we definitely see their friendship growing.

Then during the Quinceañero episode, EJ was the only one who asked Gina about her feelings & we see sparks start to fly on EJ’s end when he finds himself staring at Gina across the room. Literally after that, this is where their friendship really starts to blossom. They weren’t just friends, they were becoming best friends. Gina was the only one who agreed to do the Morning Show with EJ, they continued to scheme by fake dating once again and just having a good time together. Then EJ admits ever since that night, they have gotten closer and we see his feelings really start to grow, and we get a real, vulnerable conversation with them on the couch about how they view each other. Gina then starts to question if she and EJ are possibly more than friends, but is also cautious because she thinks he’s just being nice and there’s nothing more to it (all of this happening while she wears his Duke sweatshirt) After EJ shows up at the airport with a granola bar she’s been craving all day, she gets her realization moment that she does have feelings for him.

At this point, we have gotten them both realizing they have these feelings for each other, but are still traumatized by past heartbreak so they start to deny their feelings until their friends gives them the courage to confess. After EJ asked Gina out for risotto (proving that he remembers those little moments they shared together) she is still skeptical because she thinks he’s only doing it because Ashlyn forced him to, but when she realizes he’s asking her out of his own free will, her face immediately brightens and she agrees, which makes them both happy in return because they both put themselves out there and didn’t get rejected this time.

ricky still turns into a pile of goo whenever nini is mentioned or is around him. i have no doubt she’s always gonna be his first choice. idec who is endgame at this point but those are just facts

we been established ej and gina are beauty and the beast but lately people have been proving that they are also troy and gabriella with ej following his own dreams instead of his dad’s & with gina constantly moving around

in conclusion, ej and gina are the actual main characters & portwell is the main ship of the entire show because whatever musical they do, portwell fits the roles.

i did not like ricky this episode… or last episode. you can even see nini is starting to get annoyed of him constantly asking when can they see each other & hang out. he’s very clingy and controlling. she said she didn’t want to be a part of the musical but he kept pushing & now he’s rushing her to write the song. oh and don’t even get me started on how he broke gina’s heart and is pretending like he doesn’t know how she feels and is very insensitive constantly talking about nini in front of her.

you wanna talk about plot device? ejini was a plot device for rini and it was very obvious with the way they villanized ej to make ricky look like the better option. ejini was a superficial relationship & never had any deep emotional scenes the way portwell has. i don’t know what tim has in store for rina but you cannot sit there and deny the chemistry between portwell. ej and gina have a real genuine connection. they’re attached by the hip & hang out everyday. they’ve gotten so close lately to the point she’s very likely wearing his duke sweatshirt in 2x09 because she wanted to take ej’s scent with her (while she’s visiting her mom) because he has quickly become a comfort person for her (it’s also a very domestic thing to do). i mean i don’t remember rina ever being THIS close. nowhere near portwell’s level. sorry to break it to you.

it’s hard for me to believe portwell is a plot device for rina when ej has been the complete opposite of ricky, meaning he’s clearly the better guy right now and he says all the right things & makes gina very happy. she doesn’t even think about ricky when she’s with ej. i mean in this case, they’re villainizing ricky for ej in the gina triangle like how they used to villanize ej for ricky in the nini triangle.

anyways, i just had to put my two cents out there.

i’m just gonna say it… rini only slaps when they’re angsty because i’m sorry but they’re SUPER boring when they’re happy. i don’t understand it because portwell is extremely happy right now but they’re always so exciting to watch together because their chemistry really draws me in. also, my preference for ships is usually the epic angsty ones… so the fact that portwell is my fav hsmtmts ship really took me by surprise (i can’t even imagine their angst. it’s gonna kill me)

i’m starting to ship Rini again… it’s just i’m rewatching Soy Luna and they just remind me a lot of a telenovela couple, especially their angst/fights which I live for…
