So I was rewatching “Limbic Resonance” for the #Sense8GlobalRewatch and I finally realized that the scene at the end of the episode when Riley and Nyx are talking about their similarities is definitely much more important than it seems during the first watch, because it’s basically the key start for Riley’s character evolution. If you pay attention, Nyx tells her that she reminds him of himself, that there was a time when he felt the same as she did: alone, helpless, without meaning and purpose. We learn that she feels this way because of what happened in Iceland and that she is suffering from PTSD and has previously cut her wrists.
So when he approaches her and tells her how similar they are, he also points out that he was able to find something which could help him recover and enjoy life again. She almost begs for him to tell her how he managed to appreciate life again, and he gives her the drug. It’s in this moment that the parallelism between the two becomes obvious: just as Nyx was saved from depression thanks to that, Riley could be saved by something else (or someone else). And once she takes the drug, who does she find? Will, obviously. He is the one who will save her from her condition. He will be her personal “drug”. Thanks to him, she will learn how to appreciate life again, she will finally achieve a new meaning and purpose. I’d say that actually this reasoning may be applied not just to Will but to all the Cluster, nevertheless at the end it’s Will the one who actually saves her (both from Nyx in 1x06 and from herself in 1x12).
So basically Nyx, by giving her the drug that helped him recover, actually makes it possible for her to meet with Will thus triggering her recovery path. This is wonderful writing, right here.
