How often do you look for apps to help you in some way? You might even be using an app to help you fall asleep, but YOU NEED TO KNOW that many apps out there are not verified in their ability to actually help you! Staying away from technology at night can be the BEST part of your bedtime routine, and here are the TOP 3 REASONS WHY. 1 Smartphones emit blue light, which your brain interprets as daylight. This suppresses your melatonin which is the hormone that activates your circadian/sleep or wake rhythms. With this disruption comes a sense of stimulation and wakefulness. 2 Using your phone during the hour or so before sleep has been shown to lower sleep quality which increases symptoms of depression and anxiety, can cause problems with physical and cognitive functioning, and increased symptoms of illness. 3 It can contribute to weight gain! Interruptions to your sleep from your smartphone, or not having at least six hours of sleep (and a sic hour break from your phone!) can lead to metabolic dysfunction, leading to a higher body mass index, and risk of mortality. We want to raise awareness of the importance of sleep as outlined in September’s focus with #thewellnessmoonshot and #globalwellnesssummit (at Grewal Center For Mind Body Medicine) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3C-p3tnjjB/?igshid=m8qsbesmolku
