The saint fixes his eye on the influences of the Holy Spirit. In his view of life, the principal thing is held to be not wealth, not honour, not popularity, not power, but the riches of this heavenly grace. His ruling passion is to amass the durable riches and righteousness of the Holy Ghost. He views the Spirit as the strongest pledge of the love of Jesus - a gift so important that God can now confer on us no other gift of equal value. Jesus did not promise his disciples crowns, or riches, or honour, or ease in this world; but he did promise them affliction, with the Holy Ghost (John 16:33; 14:16) And as the Spirit touches our soul in the communication of his grace, how delightful the sensations.

Picture a flowing river and then someone has built a dam in front of the river stopping it from reaching the other side. The other side becomes a still lake. The dam is death and we are the still lake and the river is the Holy Spirit. Christ was put inside the dam when He was killed on the cross. The enemy thought he had trapped Him in death. But three days later the same Spirit who lives in us raised Him from the dead and He destroyed the dam allowing the river to flood into us and over us. But when we don't live in the victory of Christ over death we allow things into our lives that are not of life but are of death and we allow death to reign. However there are holes in the dam allowing the river to touch us. But we need to remember that in Christ the dam is broken and those things don't belong to us because with Paul we shout, "DEATH WHERE IS THY STING?" And we declare that are our King has rendered death defeated. Fullness of Living Water is ours to have.
