The second night was actually pretty interesting because while the previous night had done a lot of celebrations, this was similar in the sense that she was just eating and making conversation. Especially since it was easy to talk to strangers as they were all crowded around to get free food.
This so happened to be one of those instances where she’d make friends with someone.
“Ah! Sorry, I didn’t mean to bump into you...?” Eyes glanced over the other. Unfamiliar with her, of course, but still, Elysia found herself engaging with conversation. “Enjoying the food? There’s so much to go around, so many people! It’s kind of crazy to be quite honest.”
Kate gingerly handled the small boat in her hands, treating it like it was porcelain -- paper, too, was delicate, but her grip was so light that if it loosened anymore, the boat would surely fly into the wind.
This wasn’t her home, and she felt out of place not having a deceased loved one’s name on the boat, but writing down the other survivors’ names was all she could think of. Someone else’s voice shakes her out of her (somewhat mournful) pensiveness.
“What? Oh, no -- uh. I didn’t write a dead person’s name on mine, uh.” Not really? All of the survivors had technically, at some point and despite their best efforts, ‘died.’
“I made my peace with my gramma passin’ years ago. Just, uh -- the names of some people I don’t think I’ll see again. I hope I don’t see ‘em again. Wow, that sounds really rude now that I’ve said that out loud -- I mean they’ll be off doin’ better things and livin’ life to the fullest. Kinda.” Kate pursed her lips and closed her eyes. That sounded so bad! Some of the... the followers? Of Onema, was it? Said it could be for living people, but wow.
Yeah, I’m sending these people a dead person boat cause I don’t want to see them again.
“Are you here to send anyone off?”
