Skull connection

Soooo back at it again. Has anyone talked about this? Please point me to them, if yes.

We’ve all read about the infamous glowing skull appearing throughout S4 (if you haven’t, do go through @inevitably-johnlocked ‘s metas and this post by @loveinthemindpalace​, they are awesome) 

Re-watching TAB for the umpteenth time, this thing has been on my mind since the past few views. If what I think is true, this is a very subtle but a VERY interesting clue on S4.

So the below is the scene where Mike Stamford is taking John to meet Sherlock for the first time in TAB. The blue circled window belongs to the room Sherlock is in, whipping the corpse. The red circled metal grid door which has blue-ish lighting.

Mike and John enter Sherlock’s room. But wait, what is that in the corner? I don’t have to circle it. It’s a blue-ish thing besides Mike Stamford and that is probably the only thing standing out and staring at your face in this scene.

Let’s see a bit zoomed in

Below is the S4 skull

It does look like our S4 skull frame?!  I can’t say for sure of course, but the resemblance is there. The angle in TAB is from sideways and we always see the skull from the front in S4 but I can’t un-see the similarity....especially because we know TAB is mind palace and S4 has been haunting the fandom since it’s release, the touted EMP. 

To top that, Arwel even blatantly(indirectly) almost agreed to it on twitter. [here] [original]

We do not see this blue-ish frame again in TAB, it’s only for that scene when they both walk in to Sherlock.

It even illuminates Sherlock’s face and body later in the conversation.

But if you see from this side of the window, there is no blue light coming from the red circled door strong enough to be illuminating Sherlock or his window that much with that face/skull image appearing on it. 

So in conclusion, the strong blue light was added in the scene when they enter Sherlock’s room and it matches exactly with the skull. 

What do we say about coincidences? I’ll leave you to your deductions.

Why the skull glows

The glowing skull in series 4 is an enlarged phone screen.

In the first half of TST there are several close-ups on phone screens during skype calls: Dimmock, Hopkins, David Wellsborough and his son Charlie, Mary wanting to know more about the case. 

They look like paintings on a wall, while the skull painting looks like one of them.

 The skull starts glowing after the first bus stop scene. It’s when E gave John her phone number:   E: “This is me”.

John, earlier in the episode, about the red balloon: “This is me, a me substitute.”

John’s substitute isn’t the balloon, it’s a phone.

The red balloon is the red light on the phone screen. John and Sherlock aren’t together in the same room, they keep in touch through video calls using this mysterious phone line.

That’s why John seems to disappear and reappear in certain scenes: he gets out of the webcam’s view.

That’s why we get direct looks into the camera:

The skull-phone is particularly bright when Lestrade is nearby. It gives Sherlock access to Lestrade’s files. It is near stripes : E’s dress ? John’s blanket ? the walls at Scotland yard ? They sometimes get in front of the webcam. The scene with the carpenter and his e-cigarettes and spy wife is not framed on a phone screen but it is a phone call.

What does it have to do with this visual of Mycroft’s landline duplicated? 

Is it a phone from a previous episode: one of the pink phones from ASIP or TGG?

John’s flower on the bus window is not unlike a picture on a phone screen. E was attracted by the flower specifically. She has one too, around her neck. She’s a member of the “flower network” and John is a new recruit (I’m not calling it the lotus gang because it’s not necessarily the same).

Jennifer Wilson, the pink lady from ASIP had a flower on her phone. She could have been in the flower network too. A Wilson is arrested at the beginning of TST. Coincidence?

Is John skyping with Sherlock and texting someone else (he does call it cheating)?
