I know, I know: a politically-themed post the day after an election? ORIGINAL! But I couldn't say no.
Last night was a good night to be a human. Regardless of what your political stance is (or if you're even an American!) it was a pretty momentous night for equality of all kinds.
I sometimes get frustrated when I think about how, in 2012, we are STILL having to fight for civil rights and equality for citizens. It's pretty ridiculous, really. These things should be non-issues; equality should just be a natural part of humanity.
But last night, while watching Obama give his acceptance speech (btw: goosepimplies!) I realized that while I could look at the fighting for these issues as frustrating, I could also look at it as being alive in an amazing time. A time when I could see, with my own eyes, progress being made. I could see a record number of women (of different sexualities! What a notion!) being elected to the senate, the future of gay rights looking more promising than ever, and a nation full of young people that are standing up for what they believe in, whether they be republican or democrat.
So, instead of looking at the glass half empty, I choose to look at it full of progress.
What kind of progress have you seen lately? It can be political or personal, or both!
What kind of progress do you want to see for the future? What do you want to fight for?
