GLUE (2014) | Episode Six
Do you have any idea what it's like in my head? The fucking noise of it? And then one good thing happens—you happen—and I wake up, and that gets taken away, too. I never done that before. You knew that, right?
Rewatching Glue (2014) over a decade later is such an interesting experience because it’s completely different than how it felt when I was 20. Yet it still holds up.
Sure it suffers from some pacing issues, focusing just too much time on Rob and Tina (despite the fact that this time around I really love Rob as a character and their dynamic is rich) and not enough on fleshing out Ruth and James. Unfortunately it’s too wrapped up in trying to be like Skins and gets a little lost along the way.
But Ely is the absolute embodiment of a Greek tragedy. Callum Turner is fucking sensational and honestly even though he’s talented and has been good in other roles, I don’t know if he can ever truly top it.
There’s so much in this series about not being able to break the cycle of violence, the veneer of beauty hiding the rot underneath, the tragedy of love, the suffocation of values. There’s so much rage and regret and anger in this series, with Eli st the beating heart of it.
