States of Matter
The basic definitions of the four states of matter, three of which will be covered in more detail.
There are four states of matter; solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. The last three would be considered fluids, because these easily flow. The word “fluid” comes from the word “flow”. Solids have both a fixed volume and a fixed shape. I will be using the term “container” for liquids and gases; solids are the container. A liquid has a definite volume, but indefinite shape.
