Are Gmail Messages in Your Inbox Actually Secure?
As per the reports revealed by wall street journal, third-party developers can easily access your Gmail messages. This is absolutely a security loophole as most of the details are saved in Google email account. As per the privacy policy, the Gmail add-on developers are allowed to access email account and see messages that is a big question mark on the privacy of user’s data saved there in the inbox messages or drafts like passwords, bank details, and much more confidential things.
As per reports were given by Google, third-party developers can access the Gmail account and that too with users consent. It involves scrutinizing as if the identity of the company is represented by the App. The updated privacy policy by Google states that it will duly keep a look over the emails as well as the data of the users. The email app request access to Gmail and some developers are doing it without any permission from users.
As per the news, Google employees can also access the email account of any user that is quite harmful as per the privacy is concerned. We can’t only blame third-party Gmail add-on developers. Though this kind of practices only happen in very specific cases as if the team find any suspicious activity happening within the email account.
Recently some companies, name as Return Path and Edison Software; being trusted by Google had to access to the email account of Gmail users. As both these companies were asked questions in this regards, the reply seems to be logical. This was actually done to train the machine algorithms to handle the data in an appropriate manner taking into consideration time stamp.
Now, this service has been stopped on a permanent basis and all such data stored by us has been scratched or removed completely. Though these companies are giving trustworthy statements on privacy concerns how can users believe on them? It’s a bit tricky.
The scenario seems like same as what conditions were prevailing in Facebook Cambridge analytical data sharing fiasco. In that case, as well, third-party companies were given permission to access the data of users and they actually misused it to a huge extent thereby making many lose their social account permanently. The case was completely scrutinized as per the orders passed by US government and investigation, in this case, is still going on.
As there is no Gmail live chat support service offered by Google, that could have helped users more information in this regards as well as much necessary help to get out of this vicious circle
