So many theories about that one-sided convo in the pilot.. UGH...
You know the one I'm talking about. The one with Maya and Lucas that starts out with " Hi I'm Maya.. Etc" I have seen several ( hundred? Thousand?) theories on this scene and each one is twisted/analyzed/morphed to show favoritism for that particular fans OTP or the opposite to prove that their NoTP is " doomed." But I don't think that the actual lines ( that everyone had been dissecting) is what is important here. You can argue until you're blue in the face ( err.. Fingers?) that Maya's one-sided convo is how Rilucas " will play out" how lucaya's relationship will ultimately "go down" (you'd be wrong, but whatever it's a free interwebs) I'm not saying that lines aren't important they are.. But they are important as a WHOLE not individually. You have to remember this is S1 Maya. This is the audience being introduced to her character. This is BEFORE shipping. Before Rilucas and before Lucaya. This is how Maya thinks of relationships ( implied romantic) but maybe at this point she's encompassing all boy/girl interactions. This is the Maya who thinks " Hope is for suckers" the Maya who " doesn't expect things" out of life. The Maya who still believes that her mom drove her father away. Also the Maya who only sees Lucas ( at this point we don't know his name) is a random cute boy on the subway. What am I trying to say? I'm trying to say quit pulling a Farkle and look at the bigger picture. Her one sided convo with ( at this point) subway boy. Isn't foreshadowing any ship relationship. It's an insight to how Maya sees the world. The individual lines have intent, but it's what they mean together that's important. Now this is the pilot the beginning lots has changed since then.. People change people. Take what you will from that
