For this blog post I have chosen to write about what I have learned over the course of the semester. This semester I learned a variety of things from random ideas discussed to larger topics. But I'm not going to get into everything, rather I'm going to touch on a few things that I have found to be useful and things that I wasn’t unaware of until now.
First off, I learnt about how you can reference different sources in multiple forms of writing. Specifically I learned how to hyperlink for more personal sourcing. This is an important tool and skill for me because I use blogging sites all the time so the ability to credit places is important. Another thing that I have learned about was how to develop an ethos, which kind of links in with sourcing. This was an interesting idea for me because I was completely unaware of this prior to the class. Since I learned this I now have some basic skills to look into the credibility of what I'm reading online, which is useful in determining what is correct or not correct. Not only does this knowledge about ethos help me when I am reading pieces online, but it also helps me with my own personal writing and developing my own ethos. This is an important tool for me to have so that I can make the appropriate image in my writing so readers can understand that I am credible and that my thoughts and ideas are justified.
Along with these fairly useful concepts I also learned about why Canadian Netflix does not have the same amount of movies as American. This fact doesn't really help me in anyway, but it was something I was always curious about. So it was nice to actually figure out the reasoning behind it. Another minor fact that I have learnt in this class is that we in Canada don’t have a law restricting downloading music. Again, this topic doesn’t really help me because we have always purchased all our music off of ITunes but it does allow me correct my parents when they threaten that you can go to jail for downloading stuff offline. Which makes me a little happier and smug.
Lastly, I learnt that there are many online communities and cliques where I may fit into online and that would be accepting to me because we would share similar interests. Some examples being; Halo forums, Anime Forums and Sports forums. All these are interesting places that I would be able to go and communicate with others on the respected topics of the community. As of now I have only joined one of the communities mentioned and within that community I have developed friendships and was able to learn a few things about the topic that I did not know before. Finally I was able to learn how to make a video and upload it to YouTube, granted I am not skilled at this yet but it was something that I am going to take out of this class.
So overall I would say that my overall experience with this class has been positive and lead to me having a greater knowledge basis on digital writing and reading. And I am glad to say I enjoyed my time experiencing and learning new knowledge.

I have chosen to write about the meme “Not sure if.” with the picture of Fry from the animated television series Futurama. The image it self comes from the sixth episode of season 2, title “The lesser of two evils”. The context of the image taken during the show is when Fry is searching through Leela’s underwear drawer. According to Know Your Meme the meme it self originated from a duel picture meme containing two images of Fry, with text saying, “I see what you did there“. The original meme represents an enlightenment or learning of something that someone has done and that you are finally catching on to. The spin off of this meme and the creation of the “Not Sure if..” meme means that someone is confused on what exactly is going on at the time or not sure of what exactly they are viewing. The first meme of "Not Sure if.." was apparently created with the text of "Not sure if Trolling or.. Just Stupid" according to Know your Meme. The meme was created to portray comedy in specific odd situations.
The meme “Not Sure if..” has been altered and commented on in many different ways, to see this for your self you can just search the words “Not Sure if.. and Fry” and thousands of different styles will come up. Some examples that I find to be humorous are this meme, referring to a little bit of a racist comment that I think is really funny. Along with this meme, which I personally enjoy because I can relate to it as I also struggle with grammar and often find people to be a little bit on the asshole side. There are many more examples of how this meme has been altered and has evolved but those two are my favorite that I have strolled upon. The meme after it was generated was mainly focused on the Internet, but according to some of the images and videos found on Know Your Meme it was a meme that was aired on television connected to the opening theme video of the Futurama show and aired on comedy central in some commercials.
So I would say that this meme was able to successively get into the mass media of entertainment, it may not of been mentioned in the news or anything but it was made available to be viewed on television on a popular television show and on a popular television channel. I personally think that it is a popular meme because there are many situations in everyone’s life that they can apply not being sure what something is or means. I think the fact that it is from a fairly recognizable show also contributes to the popularity of the meme and of course the humor some of the memes display generate the popularity of it.
