Burning Alms share new single 'Every City', new album 'Afternoon Sass' will be out May 17th
It's 2019 and the planet is a mess. But back with a lightning flash and some new songs are the three enigmatic individuals collectively known as Burning Alms — Thomas Whitfield, Sebastian Lenton, and John Biggs, formerly of Calories and Distophia. The new album is appropriately titled Afternoon Sass and was captured during a bleak English winter by recording engineer and long-term collaborator Tom Livemore. The resulting record fuses punk noise and lo-fi pop with ornate jazz flourishes, garnished with the occasional Derek Bailey-esque skronk.
The first single Every City is now available digitally on all major platforms.

Revealing the inspiration for the song, guitarist John Biggs says, "The oldest track taken from the album, Every City evolved from a simple verse into a more fully realized song after city to city album rehearsals. The regular commute from London to Birmingham on weekday evenings pictured a symbiotic city - from one place to the next - filled with similar characters and ‘stages’. A live drama unfolding just outside the door. The middle section puts a sharper focus on the types of people and places of work - in this instance the world of fashion photography. Some of the worst people work in this industry."

Afternoon Sass will be released on May 17th. Stay tuned! Reminiscent of the likes of Superchunk, Sebadoh and Jim O'Rourke, the record is made up of nine tracks and it is a follow up to their previous recording, In Sequence.
Burning Alms have also announced that they will be supporting Drahla on May 9th in Birmingham's Hare & Hounds Kings Heath. Other show dates will be revealed soon.
