For those who know nothing about sports and find themselves in circles of people who are fans, I find that choosing a team to hate is just as effective as rooting for the home team by default. I'm culturally a Broncos fan by birth, but I've chosen the Chiefs to hate with a passion. Only because I'm sick of hearing about that meathead man and his famous wife every time they so much as breathe in the general direction of the proles. I've had great success with this strategy.
