excuse me while i sob at the perfection of this show.
look, i watch a lot of television. too much if i'm being honest. and i thought that i had found my t.v. paradise in parks and recreation. which i had, but i was convinced that i could never find a show that was even near parks and rec in flawlessness. then i started leverage.
you know what makes this show so great. the characters. here you have five people that have very little in common other than the fact that they steal things for a living, and well nate who 'isn't a theif'. throw them together and suddenly you have this little family.
this dysfunctional little family.
but they care immensely about each other and that is evident every time they pull off a heist or a con. and the writers seem to take such care with each character showing their growth (or lack there of).
take nate for example. the man has been through hell and turned to alcohol to cure it. and we watched as he battled his demons and he won. then he falls back into that bottle. the honest man isn't so perfect after all.
sophie. or whatever her real name happens to be. the entirety of season 2 she went off to find herself, but did she ever actually succeed?
parker is probably my favorite because she doesn't understand human behavior. she doesn't know that it is 'wrong' to tell someone their granddaughter looks like a dog. she doesn't really understand sympathy or empathy. but she wants to. she wants so badly to be 'normal' like the people she that make up her family. the scene with her and eliot on the mountian especially breaks my heart because she wants to badly to do the right thing, not knowing that the fact that she says that and has that reaction means that she is doing the right thing.
hardison i feel is a well of untapped emotion that we need to get into to. he was adopted like parker, but he had a somewhat normal upbringing opposed to parker's. he can operate in society but still he turns to hacking. he hides inside his computer. why? i want to see more of his back story. but i do love him.
eliot has this hidden depth that EVERYONE overlooks because he is their 'hitter'. but he is more than that. he can cook. he plays chess. he can sing. he can play baseball. there is so much to him that no one sees because they refuse to look past the fact that he can take out a room full of men with guns in like 5 minutes.
together they make this little kooky family. and it works. it works more than you think it should.
and to top it all off its funny, smart, witty, and just a beautifully executed show. and if you aren't watching it what is wrong with you?
