5 ways you can be a part of the GO-Green initiative
Climate change is the burning issue of the current time. No matter how much we ignore it, climate change is becoming a reality. Change in weather patterns, rising sea levels, catastrophic flooding, etc. are the signals that validate the climate change theory. Based on a study done by IPCC, the average sea level has already increased by 19 cm and the average global temperature by 0.85-degree centigrade.
All this has happened largely due to human negligence and exploitation of mother nature. It’s time that we take some drastic actions today and start reducing the carbon footprint. Many people believe that reducing greenhouse gas emissions is good to save the climate, but there are a lot of other small actions that we can take in our normal life which will help in reducing the carbon footprint.
Everyone should take initiative to save the climate and in this article, we have tried to list some actions that you can take for a better future.
Save Water: Water is a necessity and its uncontrolled usage has a significant impact on the planet. Just by taking shorter showers you can save 10 gallons of water per bath. You can also take install low-flow showers, replace leaky shower heads and faucets, close the faucet while brushing, etc. to optimize water usage. A single household can save 2900 gallons of water per year by implementing water management in the house.
Saving energy: Energy is another big contributor to the carbon footprint. You can install fluorescent light bulbs, unplug appliances when not in use, use cold water for washing clothes, and use a drying rack instead of machine drying clothes. These actions though they look small, but help a lot in making the household environment-friendly. Moreover, reduces energy usage will reduce your cost as well.
Eat smart: Eating healthy and using organic food products is a good choice to make. The diet not only becomes healthy but you also reduce the carbon footprint at the same time. Eggs, yogurt, black coffee, juice, chia seeds, oatmeal, smoothies, etc. are eco-friendly food choices that you should include in your diet. If you love your coffee in the morning, you can buy biodegradable coffee pods that are easy to dispose of.
Reduce gas: During office commute, if each one of us takes their vehicle to office, imagine the amount of carbon emissions being released in the atmosphere. Try to walk or cycle to work which is a healthier option as well. If your workplace is far away, then you can carpool to the office or take public transport to reduce the carbon footprint.
Reduce wastage: Become a smart buyer while purchasing products. Buying products in bulk will reduce packaging material usage and save you money as well. Switch from plastic bags to jute bags for carrying your grocery products or other items. You can even use electronic gadgets as long as you can to reduce e-waste.
The above-mentioned points are simple steps by which you can help save the environment and the climate so that our future generations can live on the earth.
