#Aruba ahhh such beautiful #beaches. Isn’t amazing how much sand we seem to carry away in our bathing suits back to the hotel room? 😆 What?? You don’t? Well I’m guessing you’re lucky enough to be able to wear #minimalist #swimwear 😂. Great packages all year round. #earthnskytravel #funnesttravelagency #livelovetravel #livevicariously #worldisyourplayground #worldisyouroyster #workhardtravelwell #virtualagency #onceisnotenough #gobeyondborders #groups #womanownedbusiness

I talk about it all the time so most people that are familiar with me know that I lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for all of 2011. It was a life-changing experience. I learned so much about myself and other cultures. But it also shaped the way I see my own country and broadened my perspective.
I strongly believe that most everyone should give this a go at some point. The value in getting out of your comfort zone, not having a society that is built to cater to your needs and familiarity is valuable in learning how to navigate situations and become more adaptable.
It will improve and strengthen how you conduct yourself in business and show you new ways to solve problems or approach questions. But after all the comments I could make about finding yourself and expanding your horizons, it can also come down to this, The US, Europe, and much of the world are slower growing economies now. Many of the jobs and opportunities that exist out there lie in foreign countries. And we cannot be so entitled or proud as to expect them to come to us.
Back in December, I read a great article in Foreign Policy magazine called Linked Out. As an example from the article the author writes,
"When crippling unemployment throttled Spain, some 30,000 Spaniards upped and moved to Argentina between June 2009 and November 2010."
Europeans, Asians, and other ethnicities have moved across the globe for centuries in search of new opportunities. That great migration has not taken place in the US but perhaps now is the time.
Only 2% of the US population lives abroad which is 1/5 that of Great Britain. Its not only great for us to encourage people to live abroad for their own employment and evolution, but also because, "research suggests that if you double the number of Americans living in another country, you'll see foreign direct investment from that country to the United States increase by about a 1/5."
So my words of advice are, go live abroad. Its probably the best decision you'll ever make. You'll learn about the world and yourself. You're also likely to land a great job and increase trade and strengthen the US economy.
