That time in the Copper Canyons of Mexico when our bus caught on fire as we slowly eked our way up the narrow, cliff-side road from Urique. It had been much more of an adventure than we bargained for. Our hearts were reeling from the corruption and violence juxtaposed with the resilience, love, and beauty of the community and place. Before we could gather ourselves roadside, these three Rarámuri elder women were well on their way up the long, steep road on foot. Their fortitude once again expressed in boundless independence. They waited for no man (or woman) - eyes ahead, one step at a time, they quietly went. I was glad to stumble on this photo today, to be reminded of the beauty of simplicity of life and strength to live, so vividly portrayed. #realwomen #gobrazenly #strength #vivamexico
