I’m just gonna casually pop in and drop this here for all of you~
For those who may not have read this fic yet, you can start at the first chapter by clicking: here
Story summary: The soul mark, imprinted into each human being, reads the name of the person destined to be one's soul mate. Upon finding and touching the hand of that person, a connection is created, linking the two minds together as one. It is by chance that Near hears Mello's words: "You can't be my soul mate, Matt, there's no way your parents would've named you 'Nate'." MelloxNear.
There's officially a part in the new Dice chapter where Near is having an internal monologue and Mello suddenly breaks in and Near's literal response is, "Can you not?" Tbh I feel like that's actually an excellent summary for this entire story.
Surprise! Bet you weren't expecting /this/, were you? I've uploaded this for the wonderfully patient @tsionnan who was one of my giveaway winners, back in November and who had asked for a new Dice chapter, but also in part to show that I have not, and will not be giving up on this story! I hope you enjoy the read, even if it has been a number of months since the last update. I would love to hear any of your thoughts, comments, or ideas of what will come next!
Unfortunately I’m running a bit late this morning and so I can’t offer my own genuine comments here...
But it is done!!!
So there is your link to the beginning of the second part of this story! Please be sure to leave me your comments/thoughts/etc. I’m so excited/terrified to be starting up this story again, but it’s going to be one hell of a ride!
So I’ve been edited chapter 21 for about two hours now and it’s going... well... slow. But! I thought I’d give everyone a bit of a preview of this chapter! It’s just a segment from the first draft, which mean it’s not edited and thus may turn out different in the final draft.
But for now, consider it just a teaser to what’s going to be released tomorrow morning!!! (At about 6:30EST, to be precise)
"What are you doing?" Mello asked, not to me but to everyone else who stood around the TV. I saw from my peripherals the way they turned to him; and immediately the air between them all changed just slightly from that almost perpetual destitution into one a bit more hopeful, as though Mello himself represented something even remotely resembling L. I wonder what either of them would think of that...
"Mello, what do you think?" One of the children asked.
I exhaled, 'Don't indulge them.' I offered, 'It's not really worth it.'
He didn't listen to my advice, as he rarely ever does. In hindsight, I was never too sure why I ever thought that each instance would ever be different from what history had proven to be consistent. "About what?" He asked, arms crossing almost warily over his chest.
"About the murderer. Kira. How do you think he's able to kill all those people?" I couldn't help looking up just a bit from my puzzle, watching his stance change by just a fraction as the subject rested upon him.
Within our bond I listened to the way his mind went to work considering the relatively few details he, or any of us, knew about this criminal. "How…" I heard him muse to himself, flipping through the list of victims and finding similarities only in the targets themselves as criminals, and their death by heart attacks.
'I told you not to indulge them…' I said.
"Shut up." He sent back, and I could hear the scowl within the very words themselves. "Poison of some sort." He finally responded to those waiting.
'Nothing found in the blood.' I added.
"Administered through the air, maybe."
'How would you localize that down to just one person within areas like a jail, much less without getting caught?'
"Potentially under the workings of a mass group, all within a very skewed sense of what justice means."
I sighed, looking back to the half completed puzzle before me, 'Dull…'
Damn, I loved writing God's Dice so much... why did I ever stop? Why did I stop it at 20 chapters because "I can't see this story having more than that"
God damn...
I almost wonder if I could get away with changing up the ending a little bit and just continuing on with it instead of making an entire sequel and risking not as many people reading it. Actually, the ending may not even need changing any more than merely taking out the 'the end' at the end of ch 20.
So I was writing Dice chapter 17 and my girlfriend walked up and read part of it over my shoulder. This is the exact quote of the exchange we just had: Her: ".... Ew, why is there blood?" Me: "Beause that's what happens when you don't communicate effectively." Just thought everyone would enjoy that. Because I laughed quite a lot.
I just read the latest chapter of the MelloxNear story “God’s Dice" and I’m crying, that was so painful and depressing to read!! Ugh, I’m so sad now WHY!! ;____;!!
