A Voice for Progressive Education on #GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following the widely-recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season.

The Goddard College Alumni Association has organized to collectively increase the awareness of giving to the mission, vision, and values of Goddard College by setting a goal to raise $25,000 for Goddard. Giving, sharing, posting, and encouraging others to give on #GivingTuesday will bring Goddard’s model of progressive education to the forefront of education today. Re-inspire the creative curiosity of your alumni community by becoming part of a global movement and becoming a voice for Goddard.

This year, three members of our community, Dennis and Joan Rea as well as the Webb Trust, pledged to match all gifts given to Goddard on November 27, 2018 up to $10,500! Give on #GivingTuesday and have your gift matched!

Here’s what Dennis Rea had to say:

“I attended Goddard from 1975-79 in the Residential Undergraduate Program (RUP). My studies included dance, performance art, drawing & painting, sculpture, video, gamelan and a myriad of spiritual experiences as a Goddard College student. Living in CL dorm, amongst others, was exciting because the photo darkroom was in the basement offering exciting photographic processes, like suctioning a huge photographic paper vertically for exposure from an enlarger across the room.

“This past Alumni Weekend was the first time I returned to campus after all those years. It was home again. The trees looked larger, the dorms smaller. It was a great weekend of friends, new faces and informative presentations

“My wife, Joan and I are giving to Goddard not only for a memory, but to give forward to those who will find their way at Goddard. On #GivingTuesday, we are happy to match every gift to Goddard up to $3000.00. I encourage you to contribute to one of the few colleges offering alternatives to traditional education. Give to Goddard to continue ‘that alternative path for others to find their way.'”

David & Tracy Grisman Concert: a Goddard College Fundraiser

Our Fall Fundraiser with headliner David “Dawg” & Tracy Grisman will take place at the Haybarn Theatre at Goddard College on Friday, October 5, 2018. Advance Tickets: $50 for seats in the first 4 rows; $30 Advanced General Admission; $35 Day-of. Doors open at 7:30 pm, show starts at 8pm.

All proceeds will be donated to Goddard College unrestricted Annual Fund.

Together, David and MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts alumna Tracy will bring to Goddard an intimate exchange of colorful artistry. This duet mostly plays at home, but has performed at other unique venues and for causes such as SEVA, Fodfest (Friends of Daniel Pearl), Sweethearts of the Radio (Pt Reyes) and for the JYCC. They are very excited to come to Goddard College to perform on the Haybarn Theatre stage.

David Grisman is a brilliant mandolinist who is known far and wide for his unique sound, which combines elements of bluegrass, folk, jazz, Latin, gypsy, and swing into a genre he calls “Dawg Music.” A prolific musician, Grisman has recorded more than 40 albums (5 of which won Grammy nominations) with notables such as Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Rondstadt, Stephane Grappelli, Earl Scruggs, James Taylor and Doc Watson.

Three Penny Taproom Benefit for Goddard College

Are you a Goddard College community member (friend, alumni, faculty, staff, neighbor)? Do you live near Montpelier, VT? Would you like to support Goddard but aren’t able to make annual donations? Would you like to increase your support for Goddard College?

If any of these apply or if you just like to drink craft beers and be merry… Join Us at Three Penny Taproom on September 18th. Three Penny will be donating 5% of their daily proceeds to Goddard College. Come see your fellow staff, alumni, faculty and community and leave knowing you donated to the College.

Noon – 2pm: Alumni Lunch with Advancement Staff Dustin Byerly

4pm-8pm: Goddard Cocktail Hours! Join us after work and into the evening and reconnect with your Goddard Community.
