TODAY ON THE FIRST DAY OF NAVRATRI, LET US ALL MEDITATE ON GODDESS SHAILAPUTRI.
Date 10th October, 2018 (Wednesday)
Beej Mantra || Om aim hring kleem chamundayi vichche ||
She is the first form amongst the Navdurga or the nine forms of Hindu goddess Parvati and is the daughter of Himalaya. Shailaputri literally means the daughter (putri) of the mountains (shaila). Goddess Durga was born in the house of King of Mountains "Parvat Raj Himalaya", so she is called "Shailaputri" means the daughter of mountain. She rides a Nandi bull.
Maa Shailaputri is the goddess of the Muladhara chakra and upon awakening this Shakti; one begins their journey to spiritual awakening and to their purpose in life. Without energizing the Muladhara chakra one doesn ´t have the power and strength to face challenges in life. So during the Navratri pooja on the first day, Yogis keep their minds concentrated on Muladhara. This is the starting point of their spiritual discipline.
From the Yogic point of view, the First Navratri is considered to be very auspicious day. This is the Yogic start for being in tune with the Divine Mother Durga and the energy of the Muladhara chakra for stability and strength.
Goddess Parvati was born to the Lord of Himalaya after the self-immolation of Goddess Sati. Mountain in Sanskrit means "Shail (or Shila)" and hence the Goddess came to be known as Shailaputri, the daughter of the mountain. Her devanagari name is Shailaputri.
She is also known as Parvati and Hemavati. Her vahana is the bull, hence she is also known as Vrisharudha. Because of Her importance amongst the other Goddesses, She is worshipped on the very first day of Navratri. Just like Goddess Satieven Shailaputri got married to Lord Shiva. She is always shown with two hands, the right hand holds a Trishul and the left hand holds a lotus flower.
