On Proving the Existence of God
Observing the World around us leads us to certain truths about the World in which we live. All the science mankind has produced is a direct result of observing, experimenting and refining what we see and observe in the natural world. But can an observance of natural laws and systems also prove the existence of a Creator, that is, prove the existence of God?
Take a simple apple for example. What does one need to grow an apple?
The apple needs almost an infinite amount of resources in its service and almost an infinite amount of other processes working alongside it so that it may be fully and completely produced. The problem is they all need to be working together and all the uncountable processes and systems must already be in place before the apple comes to existence.
Let’s look a bit closer to the growth of an apple and the different processes involved. An apple to grow obviously needs the assistance of the tree. So all the apples on a particular tree must communicate to the tree that they need branches and a trunk solid enough to support all the apples at least till the apple is ripe.
The tree however needs nutrients in the soil for growth and support. So it must inform the soil to contain all the nutrients needed for it to grow. The nutrients themselves needed to place themselves in the soil for the convenience of the tree. The nutrients themselves had to be composed correctly for the benefit of the tree and at the same time pose no danger to the tree and no destructive danger to other nutrients/insects in the soil.
But the tree also needs water to grow. The tree needed to know the correct composition and nature of water, so that it would have developed the processes to properly absorb it from its roots all the way up its trunk and to all parts of the tree. However, the tree having access to water means it needs to be able to summon the clouds. The clouds, tasked with delivering water to the trees need to summon the winds and at the same time have some sort of rapport with oceans, rivers and lakes.
But for adequate oceans and rivers to form there also needs to be some sort of communication with the Earth, landmarks, contours, elevations – not to mention the right amount of water available. The more we dwell into it, the more it seems the entire Earth is needed to grow a simple apple – each part communicating, deliberating and seemingly working in harmony with the other. But we still haven’t even mentioned the role of the Sun, something outside our humble Earth.
For the Sun also is part of the picture. It commands the water to rise up to form clouds, who summon the winds, so they may fall upon our apple tree. But the Sun it seems is playing a double game. It had at some point in time, made contact with every tree and they had worked together to construct a system for the leaves to create energy via the leaves through the sun’s light through the process of photosynthesis. Not to mention the tree also removing carbon dioxide with the atmosphere, an excess of which is destructive to life on Earth.
The amount of complex interplay, communication and mutual harmony functioning in our World is remarkable and it can easily be seen that the combined forces of the entire Universe are needed to grow a simple apple (I forgot to mention the apple needs be digestible by the human body and so adding a further layer of complexity and apparent communication). This leads to two possible conclusions. Either every element in the World is some sort of All-Knowing being able to account for and work together with every other element (which is also All-Knowing) or we are looking at a Single, Supreme All-Knowing Being, commanding everything else.
The former conclusion is problematic as to have multiple powers capable of creating will undoubtedly lead to confusion and mismanagement. We don’t observe such chaos in the natural World perhaps only in the systems of Man do we encounter such confusion. Even with two independent creators you set yourself up for a myriad of dissension, confusion and chaos. With more creators the problem is compounded.
But the World works and cooperates in complete harmony, leading to the conclusion of a single entity, a single God-head.
