I might just be sleep deprived.... But I just imagine Mary realizing she's not mothering material and she runs off to do assassin shit or whatever. Leaving her baby behind. Mrs. Hudson steps up and is the best granny that baby can ask for and she watches her while daddy John and Sherlock are off on cases. Can't you just see John popping off to the shops and leaving a little toddler alone with Sherlock all nervously. She sits there all small and cute in her daddy's chair across from Sherlock. He sits there with his fingers steepled and just talks to her like he would an adult. Like he would to John.
