☥ Thoth: The self- created God of wisdom, knowledge, and learning that has existed since the beginning. Thoth is the all knowing scribe and official courtier of the Underworld; he is credited for being the one who wrote the ancient book of the dead. Also believed to be written by Thoth himself was The book of Thoth, which includes chapters of many magical and hermetic arts. It is said this collection contains every secret of the universe. Anyone who reads it would become the most powerful magician in the world, but would also be cursed by the knowledge. In the magical arts, he is also thought to have created the Tarot, which goes by the same name. Thoth and his wife, the Goddess Ma'at, birthed 8 children, and together stands on either side of Ra in his boat as it travels across the sky, directing the course of the sun boat. Thoth also held the ultimate task of translating the will of Ra into speech. As master of time, Thoth is credited with creating the 365-day calendar (which replaced the inaccurate 360 day calendar). He earned the extra days by gambling with the Moon. CORRESPONDENCE & ASSOCIATIONS ☽ ☾ The sacred Ibis is the most common animal association for Thoth as well as baboons.
