No one asked but I'm gonna summarize the Godspeaker Trilogy by Karen Miller in this thread because I've read Empress twice and have started The Riven Kingdom (hype!!!) and the more i think about the transition between the 2 books, the funnier it gets.

Perenor from Godspeaker is asexual!

Godspeaker is not like any fantasy novel I’ve read in a very long time.  The main character has a stutter (which is written into dialogue) and anxiety (which is written in a realistic way) and is gay.  His brother is asexual and probably my favorite character.  Perenor is a total badass and I love him.  In many mlm books, especially fantasy books, there is a lack of women.  And the women usually suck or are there to be rescued or exist to further the story.  NOT THIS TIME.  The women in this book are beautifully written.  There are wlw characters included as well. 

THERE IS NO HOMOPHOBIA IN THIS WORLD. There is magic, gore, fantasy violence, gods being assholes (as gods are wont to do) and until at least one person tells me they’ve read this book because I recommended it so highly, I will not stop shouting about it from the rooftops.

5/5 please read!  It ripped my feelings right out of my chest and I think I lost sleep over it.  You’ll love it.

Challenge Your Shelf: Book Review I will be posting a full review later (will be linked when finished). Tessa Crowley’s novel Godspeaker was a wild ride for me.  Let me just advise you to get your self-care kit together before starting this book.  Tea, yeah, you’re gonna need lots of that.  Tissues. Yep.  Or you could do what I did and just ugly cry down the front of your shirt.  Chocolate? Needed that.  My stuffed alligator?  Snuggled it.  You have a shock blanket? You’re probably gonna need that, too.  This book had that distinct fantasy feel without being predictable, had amazing characters with complex personalities, took my heart from my chest and handed it back to me, and I’m eagerly waiting on the second book in the trilogy. You want world building? Got it.  You want diversity? Got it.  You want to lose sleep, be overcome with emotion hours after stepping away from the book, and have your phone randomly assume you’re about to text the name Perenor with no context at all (I have screencaps to prove this happens)? Yeah, this book can arrange that too. This author is now an instabuy from me.  BUY THIS BOOK! READ THIS BOOK!

So, Karen Miller

had got to be in my top list of favorite authors, which I have very few of anymore.

Finished Kingmaker, Kingbreaker series last night, started on book one of Fisherman's Children today, will be purchasing Godspeaker here very soon just so I don't have to wait when I finish this one. I haven't found a series or an author that could captivate me like this in such a long time. Not the way that this does.

I love Miller's writing style and the story holds up pretty well considering it was published in the early 2000's. I'm excited to delve further into the world of Lur and whatever lies beyond the mountains. I'm excited to see what new worlds and new people lie within the pages of Godspeaker. And once I'm finished with those, I'm going to go searching for more of Miller's works.
