I’m gonna take a cue from my man Andy Nolan and intertwine my thoughts within the context of this upcoming album I’m announcing. It should only take a minute.
We’ve got a new, full length album coming out in the coming weeks. We will be releasing it ourselves online, for PWYC download, same as all our previous releases. We’re just finalizing artwork for it now. Once that’s done, we’ll be good to go.
I (Mike) am writing this because I want to try to spread to you, the fan (hopefully) of our band, the excitement I have for this record. I feel like there’s something taboo about metal (or sludge or noise or whatever) bands talking up their own releases, but fuck it. I think this record is the best thing we’ve done, and I think it’s some of the best stuff out there, within whatever genres we fit into. I just hope it gets out to people.
I’m always amazed, after almost five years of being a band, just how many people, even within our hometown, aren’t aware that we have a new release, or even that we’re playing a show. I think this is largely due to the relative lack of exposure the band has had, and also due to the overwhelming number of events, releases and other attention-grabbing distractions that a person comes across each day. It can be kind of discouraging to me, to be honest. None of that downplays just how pleased I am to see the appreciation we’ve gotten from those folks who DO know about us, however.
It’s unlikely we’ll do extensive touring for the new release. The expenses of touring are already well-documented, so I don’t need to list them off to you. The fact is we’d just rather not eat shit on the road for a really long time all in an effort to make more people know about our band. I’m sure that’ll affect press and label interest in us (or even knowledge of us) as well.
At risk of sounding a lot like all of those long-forgotten Sunset Strip metal musicians at the end of Decline of Western Civilization 2 (”I’m gonna make it”), I really think what we have is special. When we do release the record (we’ll keep you posted on when the actual release date will be), we hope you feel the same, and will be motivated to spread the message. In absence of an extensive tour schedule and label and PR support, you folks who dig our music are the best resource we’ve got. Thanks for being interested.
